Sure, he believes in all that now, but it'll change if he wins the White House. He does that, you know.
Remember, you voting your conscience is considered by some to be bigotry. Those same people then tell you how you should think and act which is to think and act the same way they do. That's not bigotry however because after all, they are obviously smarter and better than you and me. What a Topsy Turvy outlook some people have. Black surely has become white.
Everyone with any intelligence and conscience does that, for better or for worse, as no one is going to know all the contingencies going in.Sure, he believes in all that now, but it'll change if he wins the White House. He does that, you know.
Agreed.Well, yeah, but I kinda see his point, tbh.
I'd rather vote for an openly non-Christian (a Mormon in this case) who had values that corrosponded with a Christian view, than a nominally Christian who don't.
Mourning the passing of a fantasy of "White America" - I think that's what the accusation is based on. I see the same thing (that the fantasy is racist), but America has always been multiracial. The Spanish have been here for centuries and the Native Americans before that. Afro-Americans and Caribbeans have also been here quite a long while. The Chinese are more recent, the Koreans more recent still, but here long before 1960.Really? No debate, no constructive discussion, just accusations of racism. Nice job.

Saying it 'wasn't that bad' is defending it. It was unambiguously bad and no one with any moral sense would defend it.
There's also the issue of preferring pre-1960s USA in general which includes a lot more injustice than just segregation.
If Romney's Mormonism is the reason you can not vote for him you aren't Republican.
. I feel that Mormonism is a cult rather than a part of Christianity.
Eternally Optimistic said:If people can't vote for Romney b/c of his religion that is there personal choice, but they ought not call themselves Republican. The GOP is not a WASP party, nor a WASP and conservative Catholic party; the party is united in a philosophy and general ideology which is for any American. Mormons are probably the single most loyal group of Republicans. If Romney's Mormonism is the reason you can not vote for him you aren't Republican.
What makes you a Republican is your voter registration, not your ideology
What's the defining difference?
uhmmmm...sorry but the truth is being unwilling to vote for a candidate because they're members of the LDS, is a legitimate reason to not support a candidate. Now you or I may not agree with it but then it's not our vote, it's theirs. We all have reasons (not always based on something others may agree with) for the things we like/dislike but they're OUR reasons.
tulc(has reasons and doesn't begrudge others for having theirs)
