  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

So the question is, of course, why should we allow African-Americans the right to desegregation, or women the right to vote, or Buddhists the right to pray, or Nazis the right to march, but not allow gay people the right to marry?

The answer is simple: We shouldn't.

But I do think the government should get out of the "marriage" business entirely, because I don't think governments have the authority to perform marriages. They should stick to civil unions. For everybody.

I've said it before and I'll say it again: If the government of Minnesota offers "civil unions" for some people, and "marriages" for others, my spouse and I will upgrade to a civil union.

But consider this. No reasonable person condones the views of the Ku Klux Klan, or the Aryan Nations. Most people would think espousing racial or ethnic hostility quite immoral. Yet reasonable persons still allow such groups to express their opinions.

Indeed. But not to take their actions. We let 'em talk about how much they hate people (howdy to the local KKK folks!) but we don't let 'em burn crosses on someone's lawn.

So if society should ever recognize same sex unions it doesn't necessarily mean that such unions are condoned. It means that society respects the privacy of consenting adults and treats all people equally under the law.

I have to disagree. Legalizing same sex unions is more like allowing people to practice a belief than merely allowing them to advocate it.

That said... We generally allow people to practice anything they want that won't harm other people.

For what it's worth, I believe that Christianity implies support for legal gay marriage. There is a clear moral principle here, IMHO, and I am inclined to follow it.

Who would have thought that a big smart guy like yourself would fall prey to liberal propoganda. Are you insane or just plain liberal. Don't let compassion overule your common sense. The best you can hope for is the worst.
