ah i did not know that. getting married 4 times does feel odd (even with previous bereavements or invalid marriages) and I would of thought it would be prudent to atleast pause and consider / discuss things for a moment, Ie not rush into things. I can’t imagine that it happens often (life is pretty short)

Yes TC is a tragedy and embarrassing, but there was a little good news yesterday with FSSP. But to have it swept under the rug for another generation is horrible.
I agreed with BXVI that it would enrich the ordinary form and was fine as a parallel rite. Having said that I can understand the need to address dissent that Francis talks about (though feels like an overblown generalization) but he has used a sledgehammer when a more prudent approach would of been far better.

You have a link on that?

I wasn’t aware of any dissent except to Amoris Laetitia and the Amazonian Synod, and the isolation of the Franciscans of the Immaculate from their relatives for an unnecessarily protracted period of time.
I may of used the wrong word with dissent, I was referring to the tendency of some to be drift from merely and correctly being displeased with the “liberties taken in a spirit of V2” to being overly negative about V2 itself. Francis thinks this is tied to those that prefer the TLM but I say it’s a generalization with most ok with V2 itself.

By the way, to my Roman Catholic friends @concretecamper @Michie @pdugeon @Fidelibus and others, please pray for my pious and devoted Roman Catholic friend Betty, who was a lovely and loving lady who always carried a well worn prayer book with her, along with a rosary and icon of St. Michael the Archangel. I was devastated earlier today to hear of her repose just shy of her 77th birthday, and I want to pray the Office of the Dead for her but am at present slightly too distraught. I have no doubt as to her piety and that she will rest in heavenly peace, memory eternal, and will be counted among the faithful when Christ Pantocrator assumes the judgement seat.

Praying for Betty, you, and all who knew and loved her. I’m so sorry for your loss and praying for God’s peace and comfort for you.

By the way, one thing I profoundly admire about the Roman church that the critics in this thread have ignored is the hardline position against abortion.

I was horrified to see on Scribd a book published by Knox Westminster Press, the publishing arm of the PCUSA, seeking to defend abortion as a Christian compatible practice and advocate pro-choice theology.

They're all headed by Christ, Valletta. Our Lord founded a movement, not a club.

Jesus founded a CHURCH, not a "movement". Jesus said...

Matthew 16:13-19
New Catholic Bible
When Jesus came to the region of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, “Who do people say that the Son of Man is?” 14 They replied, “Some say John the Baptist; others, Elijah; and still others, Jeremiah or one of the Prophets.” 15 “But you,” he said to them, “who do you say that I am?” 16 Simon Peter replied, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.”
17 Then Jesus said to him in reply, “Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah. For flesh and blood has not revealed this to you but my heavenly Father. 18 And I say to you: You are Peter, and on this rock I will build my Church, and the gates of the netherworld will not prevail against it. 19 I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven. Whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.

Here we see that Jesus established Peter's authority over the Church. It was prophesied by Jesus that the "gates of Hell" or the "gates of the netherworld" would not prevail against it. Jesus goes on to delegate absolute spiritual authority to Peter via the "keys of the kingdom of heaven", and with this authority Peter was given the ability to bind and loose regarding all spiritual beliefs and practices on earth, and Jesus promised that Heaven itself would honor his godly authority.

This language is indicative of the establishment of Eliakim's priesthood in the OT...

Isaiah 22:20-24
New Catholic Bible
20 On that day I will summon
my servant Eliakim, the son of Hilkiah.
21 I will clothe him with your robe
and place your sash around his waist,
and I will bestow upon him your authority.
He will be a father to the inhabitants of Jerusalem
and to the house of Judah.

22 I will place on his shoulder
the key of the house of David.
When he opens,
no one will close;
when he closes,
no one will open.
23 I will fasten him like a peg in a secure place,

and he will become a throne of honor for his family.
24 Upon him will depend all the glory of his family,
his descendants, and his offspring,
and even the smallest vessels, from cups to pitchers.

Anyone listening to Christ's words to Peter would understand Peter was the new Eliakim. Peter was now the "peg in a secure place" to keep the church anchored in proper doctrine and practice. He has full authority to bind and loose with regards to doctrine and practice in the Church. And as with Eliakim, Peter's priesthood would be a perpetual office passed down through history. This is why the Bishop of Rome (which is where Peter ended up serving) has always bore the title Pope (or Father) of the Church.

Of the Church we read...

Matthew 5:14-16
New Catholic Bible
14 “You are the light of the world. A city built upon a mountain cannot be hidden. 15 Nor would someone light a lamp and then put it under a basket; rather, it is placed upon a lampstand so that it may afford light to all in the house. 16 In the same way, your light must shine so that it can be seen by others; this will enable them to observe your good works and give praise to your Father in heaven."

The Roman Catholic Church has preserved this spiritual heritage for over 2,000 years. While the world can't recognize most Protestant churches or distinguish them one from another... ALL can identify the Holy Catholic Church. All know we continue to recognize the office of Peter. We have seen the rise and fall of every nation, kingdom, and empire since the time of Christ... and we're still standing strong. We are the largest Christian body on earth. And every day we serve humanity more than ANY other organization. We have more schools, hospitals, clinics, rehab centers, homeless shelters, homes for battered and abused women, homes for abused children, etc. than any other government or organization on earth.

The gates of Hell truly have not and will not prevail against the true One Holy Catholic and Apostolic Church. Every other church on earth broke away from us and therefore traces itself back to us.

Reality simply is what it is.

God bless.
