I didn’t know that, but interesting. Not to be controversial, but one might argue that it’s a bit heavy-handed for him to tell all Christian denominations to which he doesn’t belong what they must or mustn’t have in their ‘icons’, even if he is the owner.
it has a very simple purpose: icons with crosses in them are easily identified as christian icons, wheras any icon that does not have a cross in it is easily identified as a non-christian or unorthodox icon.

i think it's really useful, especially with so many icons now!!!

notice the cross in the calvinist icon is really understated....

Just an observation... but why doesn't the Messanic icon contain a cross?

:topic: I know...

No you are not mistaken,it was a reaction against the RC use of the cross.

Right, though I’d say that it had more to do with their interpretation of the 2nd commandment, on which they felt Rome to be in error, not a knee-jerk reaction to it being of Roman origin. Obviously, there are some things/beliefs that they and we still hold in common because they are scripturally supportable, and when Rome is in line with it we give them credit.

Now I think of it Christmas and Easter Hols were too.

Definitely! I think they were right to condemn holidays and do my best to follow that example.

Yeah, I know ;) Didn't mean to imply that I don't understand the reasoning behind it, just that especially for a Reformed Presbyterian 'symbol', historically speaking, one incorporating a cross would not be the first or most appropriate one that immediately comes to mind.

Useful doesn’t equal appropriate however. Shunning the use of images has been a central aspect of historic Presbyterianism.

Well, it’s not large, true, but it’s also pretty easy to see. Anyway, like I said, I know probably only one or two others here will agree with me. I just wanted to get my two cents in ;)

Why is that?

Simple, but then again, my argument may be pointless but here it is.

Being staunchly PCA, would I really want the PCUSA emblem as my Presbyterian icon? Something that represents what I am not. Conversely, would PCUSA people want to use a PCA emblem?

That was my point some posts back,........which Presbyterian

If I was you I would settle for the Calvinist icon,it's colourful and different and stands out.

I am a Baptist,but you don't see me using that icon :p

I notice Gabriel has gone and put a PCA icon in his Avatar........

Being a Calvinistic Baptist I have no dog in this discussion, but may I suggest a couple of icons/symbols/non-graven images?

How about this for any Calvinist:

Or for those who have too many 2nd Commdment issues to deal with
maybe someone could design an empty box for them to use.

There's my $0.02. ;)

Funny my Presbyterian Pastor says we are Calvinists.

I have no problem "sharing" the term Calvinist with the Dutch Reformed, or the Reformed Baptists among us.

If a particular poster wants to have an icon that designates him as a Presbyterian , may I suggest he do so with his atvar?

Aahh, it follows us around anyways. Might as well appropriate it as a badge of honor.

"Yeah, we burned him! At least we stood up to the Trinity denying Universalist!"
.
.
Then again, that may be a bit too strong.

Thankyou Sister

Shame that not all Presbyterians agree with you, some are hostile to sharing the term Calvinist.

Hey Ksen, that stake reminds me a lot of the stake in the Medieval Strategy game, Stronghold. Is that where you got it?

No offence to my Baptist bretheren, but I went to three small Calvinistic baptist churchs during the time that I was searching for a church home and I never felt truly a part of a church until I went to the closest PCA church. The three Baptist churchs were rather cold and somewhat hyper-calvinistic. However the PCA church is where I feel I belong. I enjoy the more reverant liturgy and the minister is the most God gifted minister I have ever met. At any rate, I just feel like I am more associated with a particular denomination of church than one theologin among many who have expounded the Biblical doctrines of election.

as to putting PCA into my avatar, I'm still a little prideful and I like my current avatar. One day, I'm going to change it but it will probably still be fencing related.
