It's not a problem, just go to biblegateway.com, type in a verse and pick which ever translation is helpful for you to understand.

Oh, that's ok, I already have a bible. It is the King James Version, but when I see quotes from other translations, I do like them better. But buying 2 bibles is redundant.

Quite a few, actually. Here are some:

Luke 1:37 kjv - For with God nothing shall be impossible

Job 42:2 - I know that thou canst do every [thing], and [that] no thought can be withholden from thee.

Revelation 19:6 - And I heard as it were the voice of a great multitude, and as the voice of many waters, and as the voice of mighty thunderings, saying, Alleluia: for the Lord God omnipotent reigneth.

:amen::amen::amen::amen:

Hey in the Christian section do you guys want to do Bible Studies to learn about who God is?

You sure? You will get a solid picture, not from what people say but from what the Bible says.

If you ever would like to just send me a message!!!!:wave:

I find that what god is is far too subjective for anyone to definitively say what god is, so why let someone else tell me their interpretation when I can formulate my own? It doesn't make a difference either way.

But what if it is really the Torah? Or The Quran? Or the Iliad and other Greek stories? Most religions have at least one text similar to the bible in nature.

That's why the Bible is very clear about it's claim and the prophecies it has fullfilled.

Are you sure you don't want to learn about the Bible and it's authority in the Christian section?

Everytime I bring up any of these things, the threads get closed lol!

So are the other texts about their prophecies. Prophecies, no matter how strange and astounding, don't pack much of a punch when you realize the text was written after the fact, and could have just made up the prophecy part to make the events seem more amazing.

Um, yeah...clearly what I meant was, explain the bit a bout "three different persons in one." And how this is not polytheism.

You can't begin to understand until you can believe that God exists first!

Basics first, hard topics after.

The question is what did the original text say and how would those words have been understood by a speaker of that language.

My bet is they mean something rather different than the modern definition of omnipotent.

Still good finds, far better than most could do.

"Nothing is impossible" seems pretty unambiguous to me.

Would you say you need to believe in Zeus to understand him? I think critical thinking might be more important than belief in that endeavor.

Like I said, you will learn what the BIBLE says about God, not about my interpretation, not about your interpretation and not about the interpretation of the President!!

That's why the Bible is important, it is the Standard of Truth for mankind.
Anyway I think this thread might close soon due to the theological disussions..

In other words, throw logic out the window first, and then its easy to understand...

Well if that's all I have to do...:doh:

When someone is claiming to teach you something that is subjective (what God is), be very leery of their motivations to have the opinions they do.

This is why I chose to devour as much as I could when it came to respected NT scholars and historians and stay away from the two extreme views; 1. Jesus never existed and 2. everything in the NT is historical fact and is 100% correct.

When you do this, you can learn quite a lot and probably be quite surprised, how many christian scholars doubt the credibility of certain portions of the NT.

Only cause certain Christians report it so they no longer have to think about the ramifications of their illogical beliefs.

Indeed, very objective approach isn't it.

I already have the answer; my God exists, so now lets go find whatever evidence I can to convince myself it is true.

No Sarah, that's what you don't understand. These prophecies were written BEFORE the 300s BC!! Jesus was born 5 or 6 AD!!!

These prophecies were translated into Greek in the Third Century BC.

In the New Testament Jesus quoted from these 39 Old Testament books.

For Him to have quoted from these books, they would have been written already.

Did you know many prophecies pertain to the Nation of Isreal? The fact that they will be persecuted and live in fear? Israel is the Jews. Haven't they been persecuted, haven't Nations rose against them over and over again to try to destroy them? Germany? Russia? Iraq? Egypt? Etc.

There are 2500 prophecies my friend!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ahhh no! Because its a creation and evolution debate forum!!

Do you always need to mock Christians and God and our Faith? What is it with you?

And if a person used logic, they would see beyond their nose!

Exactly, that's why after a lesson or whatever, you go back to the BIBLE to confirm what was said!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Jesus said that The word is True and not one little jot or little dot will pass away until the earth and heaven do.

It is all True, no exceptions. God knows what He is doing.

You won't be able to find it unless you and me go to the feet of Jesus and confess our sins and turn away from them.
