It wasn't a unique idea, it was common thinking, why don't you understand that the "elements of the earth" would have been something like earth, water, fire, and air?

Because it spoke of the soil in regards to the human body. The Hebrew word for soil is used as a play on words for Adam.

Adam = man.

Adama = soil.

That's why.

And Jacob means "the deciever" and Esau means "hairy", the bible does stuff like that all the time. Adam is directly stated in the bible to be made of dirt, so the play on words isn't exactly shocking, though it is mildly humorous.

Actually, there is a lot of Jewish wit contained within the Hebrew Torah. Often times its totally lost on the modern English reader.

The Lord has a phenomenal sense of humor. Man having been created in God's image reflects this.

Problem: god didn't name most of the people in the bible itself. So that kind of humor is not fully explained, especially the sort such as Jacob being named "the deciever". I understand perhaps how parents might have given Esau his name, since he was supposedly hairy, but what parent would name their kid "the deciever" knowing that is what the name means? I view it as foreshadowing in that particular story, and you can't have names foreshadow stuff if you aren't the one that names the characters.

It's documented why Rebekah named her son Jacob.

I thought you said you read the Bible from cover to cover?

In addition ...

Genesis 27:36 And he said, Is not he rightly named Jacob? for he hath supplanted me these two times: he took away my birthright; and, behold, now he hath taken away my blessing. And he said, Hast thou not reserved a blessing for me?

I read it, but it was a while back, as I have told you, I didn't memorize it. And the reasoning for his name didn't strike me as particularly... logical. It makes sense later considering what actions he takes, but that his holding onto his brothers ankle while being born somehow makes "the deciever" make sense doesn't work for me.

What is of the atmosphere that we do not find in the elements of the soil?

Carbon. The sugars in plants are formed from the carbon dioxide in the air. The oxygen in those biomolecules are from the oxygens on those sugars or from the air or from the water you drink. The hydrogens in your body are mostly from the water you drink, or the water the plant/animal drank that you then ate.

Of the major elements found in biomolecules, phosphorous is probably mostly from the soil. Nitrogen is still ultimately fixed from the air and put into the soil.

Its not 'deceiver." Jacob means, 'supplanter.' Not quite the same thing, though one who supplants can often times be a deceiver. Its to take the place of (a person or thing previously in authority or use); supplant. Jacob took over the position of the eldest son.

I must have looked at a bad translation. Or it is Hebrew "one word standing for a ton of similar yet different things" at it again. Still, the name doesn't make a lot of sense before events that took place long after Jacob was born.

God was not forming the first human body as a result of a process of digestion and assimilation. And, that body was formed before it took its very first breath. It was not breathing in oxygen, nor giving off carbon dioxide. The body was yet inanimate right after it was completed.

So, all what was needed for making the body was to be found in the soil. Yes, I agree. There are other sources for certain elements found in a body.

Seeing as it was already stated earlier in the bible that Adam was made out of dirt, and there is no proof that Genesis didn't exist at the time of Moses, couldn't Moses have just read that?

From "claims" to "proven" -- interesting.

Scientists can't prove gravity, can they?

And yet, when you jump, you don't fly off into space. And I would like to mention that evolutionary theory has stronger and more evidence that supports it than gravitational theory, just to give you something to mull over.

Also, much of the Dead Sea scroll content would later become biblical cannon, so I don't view the two documents as unrelated sources of information. Those scrolls were almost like a first draft of the bible.

You've got to be kidding me?

You first say this:
Nothing but the bible claims such a person existed.
Then you claim the Dead Sea scroll content would later become biblical cannon, to keep from being shown otherwise.

Well ... if you're going to try this hard not to believe, don't let me get in the way.

Carry on with your unbelief.

Dead Sea Scrolls - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia tell me none of their content contributed to the bible.
