  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Someone called Jesus simply "good" (let alone great?!) ..

.. Here's what Jesus Says >

Mark 10:18 "Why do you call Me good?" Jesus replied. "No one is good except God alone.
And Jesus said to him, Why call you me good? there is none good but one, that is, God. ...
Luke 6:45: "The good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth what is good; and the evil man out of the evil treasure brings forth what is evil; for his mouth speaks from that which fills his heart."

Matthew 12:35: ""The good man brings out of his good treasure what is good; and the evil man brings out of his evil treasure what is evil.

So some are good?

Similarly...

Romans 3:10: "As it is written: "There is no one righteous, not even one"

James 5:16: "...The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective."

So if no one is righteous, are no one's prayers powerful and effective?

There was a guy in my small group that brought up the same thing, saying we can't call anyone good because no one is good, citing the same verse you did. But other verses refer to "good people" and "bad people", and of course the separation of good and bad on Judgement Day.

I'm genuinely interested to hear your take on this: How do you mend the apparent discrepancy?

Yes, St Stephen is amazing. I wish there were more historical information available about him. I hope I can live my life at least half as well as he went to his martyrdom.
