• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

Rest assured, you have called it what it is, an obsession. "What if I don't have OCD" is a common one and I went through it pretty hard. This can be a pretty nasty one, because it can give your anxious brain a lot to obsess over. The fact that we have this obsession makes it pretty clear to me that we do have ocd.

The thing about ocd is there is always one more problem to solve, and if you are tired of one, there is one waiting for you. I try to surrender it all and rest in God's grace.

Hang in there. Marc

Yep, nearly every ocd'er has this thought. It's one of the ways my doctors knew for sure I had it. :)

I've had that one for a while. Actually, there was a good 10 year period where I went from one disease to the other...

...I think the doc thought I was trying to keep him in business on my own...

...Now that I finally got past diseases I'm on economics....

I know I have OCD but have never heard of "scrupulosity" - I looked up the definition and decided that it is exactly what I have as well. Amazing that we are all so alike!

Concerning your quote: "I'm so scared that I don't have OCD and that all this crap I do is really me!"

I think this might be what some people might believe about mental illness (ie some very legalistic Christians)

However, the fact that you are worrying about this I think proves that you do have OCD.

I acknowlege that we frequently have to use the term "OCD" to try and help others understand us, but in the big picture I don't think God cares what we call ourselves but onl;y what He calls us. Whether we have OCD or do not have OCD is irrelevant. Fact of the matter is, God confines all humans under sin (Jer. 17:9-10) and then proclaims believers totally well and sound in Christ Jesus. If we don't "feel" well it is merely because we have trouble seeing the truth through the awful world in which we live. We won't be totally saved form this world until we die (Romans 8:23-25).

I had an obsession once. Over a person. It got so bad that, today, him and I can't even be friends anymore. But it was more of a controling issue with me. I also thought at one time "I think it's really me. I think my mind has a mind of its own." I've learned that OCD can be controlled. So, now when I start to obsess over something, I do stuff to get the obsession off my mind. For example, read, write or you could think of something you want to do. That's how you break an obsession. So, I don't think people should worry about if they have it or not. Because if you do, don't be ashamed because you aren't alone.
