Just how would an Athiest be a good pastor. The primary purpose of a pastor is to preach the Gospel.

There are those who play a pastoral role on this board and will continue to do so.

I don't think that's the job of the moderators though. If we were to complare them to roles in a church setting the moderators should be more like the janitors and ushers. They keep the place tidy, see that the chairs are set up in the right places and step in if anyone is causing a ruckus. I think most church members would feel fairly comfortable with a non-Christian in that role as long as they are doing a good job.

And simple rules will make that possible.

By the way, it's good to be back after over two months. <----- I've never used this smilie before. :)

Erwin,

This is an interesting approach. I don't know how it'll work but I wish the site and the people here the best of luck. For me, I think these changes have come a bit too late. I'll visit from time to time, but the sort of participation that came with my 20,000+ odd postings, I just don't have it in me any longer. I sort of wish these changes could have happened a bit sooner.

I'm sorry what was it I was confused about?

I don't know. I am confused now.

New CF.

Very exciting.

I would "elect" a non Christian if I felt they were fair and even keeled, from what I understand moderators will be around to keep things from getting out of hand. I think anyone could do that.

Now Christian ministry that can be done by anyone in our lifestyle and our words.

Let's all HUG NOW! ;)

Mods aren't pastors, so I don't understand what that requirement has to do with anything.

That's not what staff has been told. Staff has been told that their primary job is Christian ministry.

We may have been told that, but that is not what most do. We spend our time going over reports, issuing warnings and infractions, that isn't spreading the good news,

One thing Dr. Loh mentioned that has been overlooked: He hopes to see a culture change at CF.

Folks, we need to grow up and stop acting like junior high school students with our little cliques and silly exclusion rules. It is time to act like adults.

Of course he has a knife, he always has a knife, we all have knives! It's 1183 and we're barbarians! How clear we make it. Oh, my piglets, we are the origins of war: not history's forces, nor the times, nor justice, nor the lack of it, nor causes, nor religions, nor ideas, nor kinds of government, nor any other thing. We are the killers. We breed wars. We carry it like syphilis inside. Dead bodies rot in field and stream because the living ones are rotten. For the love of God, can't we love one another just a little - that's how peace begins. We have so much to love each other for. We have such possibilities, my children. We could change the world.

But it isn't a question of compassion...?

Hopefully, there will be very few rules to even adhere to, but am speaking specifically of people who are well-liked within their own circle, but scornful of faith.

It's not about how compassionate or honest they are, cos many theists are lacking in both.

But if someone thinks Christianity is "delusional" and "for stupid people" - terms that have cropped up in GA *repeatedly*, I don't think someone with those views should be in a leading role within a Christian environment.

Neither do I. But there are many non-Christians who aren't like that on CF also.

Think of it as a great experiment in which we the members will modify the rules and requirements of moderators as needed.

Plus, while atheists do outnumber Christians in GA, they do not outnumber Christians forum wide. I would be surprised if a single atheist makes it to moderator based on a vote.

Lisa

I wouldn't, although I would imagine that most of the moderators here would still be Christian, by a wide margin. I can think of at least one atheist in particular who I would vote for in a heartbeat if s/he were interested.

That's not what staff has been told. Staff has been told that their primary job is Christian ministry.

If this is indeed the case then, by definition, a Non Christian cannot fulfill this responsiblity...

Yeah, I absolutely did not mean it that way. I just meant that some atheists are very fair minded and I think they would make good moderators. I would never want a pastor who was an atheist. That would be like letting in the wolf in the pasture, don't you think?

Lisa
Absolutely, Lisa.... I was referring to my real life pastor, not Internet moderators. In all honesty... you can be anyone that you want to be online. That is why as Christians we need to be extremely careful both in real life and on the internet; if we do not know the Word we can be easily lead astray.

There's a difference between a person who respectfully disagrees, and then one who belittles like the personality you are describing.

I wouldn't make a mod out of a person who has a history of bad-mouthing any religion, because they might bad-mouth the community or something. If it was a respectful atheist, who knew how to mod, and wouldn't say disrespectful things like, "Oh God is lame, you're lame. Christianity is stupid." then I'd imagine them being on staff, but if they were to talk like that then ...well...I wouldn't think it'd be a good candidate.
But they'll be voted in by the people that agree with them... that's the issue in a nutshell.

In sounds so beautiful in theory, but if you've spent any time in GA, or the Current Affairs forum... scary places, with an awful lot of God-hating going on. It could be so uncomfortable if one of the main "antagonists" was to be voted onto staff because within their own forum they're incredibly popular.

I think that the the new regime offers a solution to get a closure for those who have been severely hurt by the carryings on of the former regime. It is not asking much that the stigma of the sins of others may be lifted once and for all instead of thoose things being continually hid behind the cloud of secrecy
Taz - as YOU forgive, so are YOU forgiven. The stigma has been lifted - wiped away and soon forgotten - at least by the rest of us.

There is more to me than the venomous lies posted in the CR.

Lies perhaps and unjustified...but more meaningful as the declaring offenders were demonstrating polarity rather than unity.
