  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Just like I said, two feathers: it was your country then, and it's your country now. You have every right to be proud of the Native American's service to this country.

I am.

Anyone wearing the uniform of the United States Armed Forces deserves the highest respect that can be paid to him or her. And it doesn't make the slightest bit of difference if their ethnic background is European, Asian, Native American, African, Pacific Islander, or Middle Eastern......if they get wounded, they all bleed red.

Correct me if I'm wrong...as I'm a bit hazy on the history of N.A.'s:

It was the Navajo "Windtalkers" during WWII that created their own code that the Japanese or German cannot break....thus frustrating the enemy on what the Americans were up to :)

Goes to show that Americans have a strong streak of ingenuity that most people in the world don't. :)

Just so you know...my uncle passed away 2 weeks ago, due to serious illness. He fought and survived 4 wars while in the Navy. He was also an "honorary" member of the Salish/Kootenai tribe of the Blackfoot Nation. :) Yes, I'm proud of him.

Well, they didn't create a code, they simply spoke their own language, which is known by very few people who are not Navajos themselves. However, the language has no military expressions. But as the Navajos don't have a written language, they are accustomed to learning things by heart. All stories, prayers, etc. are learnt by heart. As such, they had no problem learning in a few weeks a list of 270 words used for various military expressions and for some countries. Additionally, as the language was no written form, it doesn't conform to simple rules of pronounciation. Therefore, it is very hard to transcribe, let alone decipher.

Goes to show that Americans have a strong streak of ingenuity that most people in the world don't. :)

Well, the German Enigma machine did keep your codebreakers occupied for quite some time. It was quite ingenuous as well.

Aho my brother! A peaceful people though small in number are the most respected and most deserving of respect. Anyone to fight for what they believe in and to the death if necessary can be found among the Native American. Many medical cures can be attributed to Native Americans. Sorry I guess we shouldn't toot our own horns. :D I'm proud to be an AMERICAN and also proud to be a NATIVE one ;) !!!

I have nothing but the highest respect for Native Americans, having grown up with my best friend, a Dakota Souix. I am not surprised that they are the highest percentage of "minorities" serving in the military!

Though I hate to classify them and look at statistics like that because people are people, and they are all Americans, (though Native Americans a bit more honorable in their lives) and they are all there for the same reason.

God Bless America

there are good and bad native americans just like there are good and bad of any race or culture. i do not think it is wise to assume just because you are a NA you are a wonderful person.
here is a funny story. a few years ago we hosted a boy india for a few months. the kids around here did not believe he was an indian they though he was spanish. they said he was too tall for an indian. He called Native Americans red indians. He was very interested in learning about them

"Tell your children of the friendly acts of the Indians to the white people who first settled here. Tell them of our leaders and heroes and their deeds. Put in your history books the Indian's part in the World War. Tell how the Indian fought for a country of which he was not a citizen, for a flag to which he had no claim, and for a people who treated him unjustly. We ask this, to keep sacred the memory of our people."
