Oh, just kill me now!
Is this pathetic, or what?
This a Lord of the Rings site, so the members are composed of the usual mixture of members with varying religious beliefs; perhaps twenty percent of them are young evangelical, conservative Christians, and started this debate thread in order to 'witness', in contravention of the rules there. You may state your beliefs, of course, and defend them, but you may not cross the line and proselytize. Some overbearing and even downright obnoxious posts have been edited or deleted there, with the usual posts explaining why, and follow-up PMs, which has cause them in their fellowship thread to attack the mod stuck with this job, who had the misfortune of taking over this particular duty when I quit.
As you'll see, some of them have deep faith, but no actual clue about what and who it is they have faith in. I'm about to give up on them, because they've shown no interest in anything I've posted, except to contradict parts, don't seem willing to put in the necessary study to learn the even most basic Bible concepts, and a very few of the newer members, who joined after I changed over from my Plan 9 account, with its join date and impessive post count, seem to feel I'm a traitor for not blindly supporting 'our side'.
Strangely enough, for no reason I understand, given the company I'm keeping, some of the non-Christians have shown an interest in my posts, especially my friend, Ann Kalagon, who is a old-fashioned Trotskyist, so is naturally attracted to the the trials and tribulations of the Israeli people during Rome's occupation, and has been doing some reading of her own.
My greatest concern is my friend, Rosie Cotton, who is Orthodox Jewish. None of these Gentile Christian young people, all of whom are women, would ever be tempted in the slightest to heave a brick through a Synagogue window, and their parents are probably big supporters of Israel, yet I would be hard pressed to find a better illustration of how Gentile Christians persuade the Jewish people with whom they come in contact that Yeshua couldn't possibly be Messiah, while attempting to do the exact opposite.
So...is anyone here a Lord of the Rings fan? Not that you have to be to join; half the site is off-topic.
Hey; quit that snickering; it was worth a try...
