I'd hope that they're treated as normal citizens, since I wrote my first post with that assumption.

But seeing as how they don't need guards, chains on the prisoners would be pretty pointless.

This was my assumption as well, but I wanted to make sure. And now that I've read the character bios and yours was approved, I'm thinking it was a rather stupid question of mine.

But at least I have an idea now.

Awaiting approval, boss.

Awesome character, you are good to go.

Mm, question. If a prisoner is brought to Bethany, are they then treated like normal citizens since their memories are wiped? Or are they actually still considered prisoners; in chains and all?

Brilliand is right; yes you are treated like citizens, because everyone else is like that anyway. Citizens...in a very blunt way of putting it. Like calling a monkey in a zoo a guest at a resort. All the trees, grass, and water he could want, but he truly doesnt know where he is.

Bethany is made up of the Bethans, who live under the ground of Bethany and in the walls around it, while the Empty people live above ground and do the hard labor. Blacksmiths, farmers, builders, makers, etc. They aren't really citizens...they just aren't chained up. They live in their own little terrarium.

Yeah, it's nice to see people being active. Pity it's only one game... (subtle hint, which is now a not-so-subtle hint)

Agreed. I think that if everyone puts some effort into it, we could get everything moving again. I remember the days when I could join five new games in one night, and maybe another two or three the next morning. Now I have to wait a month just to see any activity at all. Over exaggeration, yes, but you know what I mean.

I've been preoccupied with attaining psychological freedom... It's working, but you might be shocked at the amount of negative conditioning the mind carries around... and the bulk of it is unconscious. It's fortunate I have a situation that allows the time to contemplate deeply.

I remember those days well. It's always sad to come here and see this place so empty compared to how it used to be. Most of my RPs are done on a private forum now.

Anyway, I need to get a character. Think, think...

Hello everyone!

I would love to join this RPG. Looks like fun! I'm trying to come up with a character and I had a question for you, Sylvengard. We know that the people who reside in Bethany don't know about the outside world. But...does the outside world know about Bethany and what goes on there? How the people's memories are erased? If so, how widely is that information known? Do only a few people know about Bethany? Maybe some government organizations or religious groups or something?

Just wondered because I'm trying to come up with a reason for my character having been taken to Bethany (one that will be found out later, of course), and I need to know who knows about it in the outside world...if anyone. Thanks! ;)

The outside world is a twisted wasteland on many levels. We could see a little of it from what the guards could see from the Wall. So really, I wouldn't know what to tell you at this point. Essentially though, Bethany is in the middle of nowhere.

All the Bethans know of what goes on (not just the government), and its similar to the meat industry in modern America. There are a few that are similar to animal activists, but they are few. Of course, that could even draw parallels to slavery.

So, in other words, what goes on in Bethany tends to stay in Bethany. They send out merchants (Bethans, not the Empty), with goods processed above ground in Bethany. Not much is gathered about the surroundings, but they know that if they travel south they will eventually hit something. Usually they never come back, but those that do are made Empty regardless of where they came from.

If you are wondering who outside knows about it... It might be a legend or fairy tale of sorts to an obscure group, or maybe just an imaginary place of any and many names used by mothers to frighten their children into staying in bed during the night. Otherwise, its not highly regarded as a real place.

I do have a small clarification: is everyone being summoned to the cathedral, or just our characters?

Just a select few. Your characters, mostly, as well as a few NPCs. My character will be one of them, and how many players we actually end up with with affect if there are any more NPCs.
