Monday, October 26, 2009, 7:55 a.m. I woke this morning from a dream.
THE DREAM: Scene one: There were wrecked cars parked on the north side of the street. The bodies of the cars were all torn up with metal sticking up everywhere (like there had been an explosion inside of them). The owners were trying to take the cars away, I assumed to be repaired, but they were meeting with resistance from other people. It didnt make sense to me why other people would try to keep these owners from taking their wrecked cars to get them fixed. I had the sense that these cars/drivers had possibly collided with each other, and so there was some hostility between them. One owner had another person drive his car away while he rode in the vehicle. The car drove off to the right (east).
Scene Two: I went to see a movie with my two oldest children, David and Jenny. I believe that I left before the movie was over.
Scene Three: I had been at school. I couldnt remember if I had driven to school or not, so I didnt know if my car was at school or at home. Yet, I didnt check to see if it was at school before I accepted an offer from a woman to drive me home. I felt as though this woman was a teacher. There was an affectionate relationship between us (or I had a great affection toward her). I know that I wanted to kiss her on the cheek before I left. She dropped me off at my house, which was an old house that sat up on a hill.
It was dark outside. All the lights were off/out in the house, too. I asked her if she wanted to come inside for a visit, but she declined. I think I felt embarrassment about my house and my invitation for her to come inside to visit was to show her our house in a kind of mockery of our house, I think. We were sitting in her car talking when I asked her if she had seen the movie that I was viewing with my children. I dont recall her response. Her car was in a driveway or a street just off to the right (east) of the front of my house. And, that is where she dropped me off.
Then, my family showed up. And, it began to snow. I told them how I had left my car at school, because by this time I could see that my car wasnt at home. I could see that the snow, too, was coming down really hard and I felt as though we were probably going to be snowed in for the weekend. So, I said I would need someone to drive me to school on Monday morning, or at least, I felt it was a Monday.
My family that had arrived consisted of an adult and three young boys. Someone asked me about the three boys names, but I couldnt remember. I said something to the effect that I could remember my childrens names, but it is harder to remember the names of the grandchildren. In my mind, though, I had this feeling that one of the boys, the oldest one, was my son and not a grandson, even though all three boys were close in age. END
Speak, Lord, for your servant is listening. I read Jonah 4:
My Understanding: After I read this passage of scripture, I read the commentary in the bottom margin of my NIV Study Bible and I made some notes. Immediately I began to plug this dream in with this passage of scripture, and I marked where I believed the scriptures and the dream paralleled. Then, I picked up the newspaper to read it, and I read these news articles:
Iraqi searches for brothers in ancient cemetery where thousands of bodies lie unclaimed - Iraqi searches for brothers in ancient cemetery where thousands of bodies lie unclaimed | The Herald - Rock Hill, SC
Massive Baghdad bombing casts doubt on Iraqi security, elections
Massive Baghdad bombing casts doubt on Iraqi security, elections - 10/25/2009 - MiamiHerald.com
And, again, these news articles also began to plug into this dream and also with this passage of scripture. Then I got on the computer and read more articles:
Baghdad steps up security after bombs kill 155
Excite News - Baghdad steps up security after bombs kill 155

My Way News - Iraqis mourn victims of worst bombing in 2 years
Obama plays golf with a woman - Obama played golf with a woman chief domestic policy adviser Melody Barnes for the first time since taking office.

From what I am seeing here, I believe that Obama and Jonah are being paralleled to some degree, though not entirely. Ill get to that in a minute. First of all, I must say that this is moving to me to tears, that it is beyond my ability to comprehend or to put together. I trust the Lord Jesus Christ, my heavenly Father and the Holy Spirit will grant this Lords servant understanding of all of this.
The dream began with wrecked cars that were parked and that the bodies of which were all torn up with metal sticking up everywhere. They looked as though they had been exploded from inside. Most of these news articles are about the violence in Iraq and in Afghanistan, especially since the USA invasion of Afghanistan in 2001 and in Iraq since 2003. One article (the first listed) talked about the unidentified dead from Sadam Husseins Iraq and then it described the unidentified dead since America entered Iraq in 2003.
In the dream, further on down, I could not remember the names of three boys who were part of my family. I believe they symbolize the forgotten; the unidentified and nameless people who have died since the USA took possession in Iraq, and also in Afghanistan. In Iraq, the unidentified number at least 22,000. They lie unclaimed. The morgue has received nearly 30,000 bodies in the past three years, according to this AP news article. And, when family members come to try to claim them, they are met with resistance. So, in this case, the car bodies represent peoples lives as well as they represent these car bodies. Mainly they represent human beings.
The movie - In the case of this first article, the movie represents a small viewing room where pictures of bloodied and bloated bodies flash across a large screen in a gruesome slideshow. This is how families of the dead are able to identify their loved ones who have died.
Then, the next series of articles are about violence that erupted in Iraq on Sunday with two suicide car bombings that killed 155 and wounded another 500 people. And, they are about helicopter crashes in Afghanistan in which US soldiers were killed. There were three American contractors among the wounded in Iraq, according to the AP News article, Iraqis mourn victims To many of us, these numbers are just statistics. The people are nameless. But, to the people of Iraq, these are their loved ones. In Iraq, suicide bombers set off explosions outside Iraqi government buildings. This was the deadliest day in Iraq since April 2007, according to the Miami Herald news article. The attacks struck at government buildings that were supposed to be secure. The simultaneous blasts took place around 10:30 a.m. Sunday morning, the first day of the workweek in Iraq, according to the article. This would coincide with me mentioning needing a ride to work on Monday morning in the dream.
The Miami Herald article said,
The movie Americans at the scene asked Iraqi security guards for surveillance videos from buildings in the area, and investigators took soil samples and carted off pieces of twisted metal, stated the Miami Herald article.
To be continued...

Speak, Lord, for your servant is listening. I read Jonah 4:
Jonah's Anger at the Lord 's Compassion
1 But Jonah was greatly displeased and became angry. 2 He prayed to the LORD, "O LORD, is this not what I said when I was still at home? That is why I was so quick to flee to Tarshish. I knew that you are a gracious and compassionate God, slow to anger and abounding in love, a God who relents from sending calamity. 3 Now, O LORD, take away my life, for it is better for me to die than to live."
4 But the LORD replied, "Have you any right to be angry?"
5 Jonah went out and sat down at a place east of the city. There he made himself a shelter, sat in its shade and waited to see what would happen to the city. 6 Then the LORD God provided a vine and made it grow up over Jonah to give shade for his head to ease his discomfort, and Jonah was very happy about the vine. 7 But at dawn the next day God provided a worm, which chewed the vine so that it withered. 8 When the sun rose, God provided a scorching east wind, and the sun blazed on Jonah's head so that he grew faint. He wanted to die, and said, "It would be better for me to die than to live."
9 But God said to Jonah, "Do you have a right to be angry about the vine?"
"I do," he said. "I am angry enough to die."
10 But the LORD said, "You have been concerned about this vine, though you did not tend it or make it grow. It sprang up overnight and died overnight. 11 But Nineveh has more than a hundred and twenty thousand people who cannot tell their right hand from their left, and many cattle as well. Should I not be concerned about that great city?"

The Miami Herald article said,
American and Iraqi officials were hoping for a calm election season that would pave the way for a swift U.S. withdrawal from Iraq, but a political stalemate over election laws and the insurgents continued ability to exploit the Iraqi governments vulnerabilities are potential spoilers. Now the January polls are in jeopardy, along with the Obama administrations goal of leaving behind a much more stable Iraq than the weak, violence-ridden nation of recent years. The United States will stand with Iraqs people and government as a close friend and partner said President Barack Obama.
The movie Americans at the scene asked Iraqi security guards for surveillance videos from buildings in the area, and investigators took soil samples and carted off pieces of twisted metal, stated the Miami Herald article.
