  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

How to Distinguish True Elders and Prophets from False Ones - The Catalog of Good Deeds (obitel-minsk.com)

In an age when Roman Catholic "seers" (many of whom I consider to be seriously crazy) abound in predictions of the "Last Days," and are joined by Protestants who claim to have visions of the Apocalypse or that God has spoken to them personally about the "End Times" soon to come, this is an important posting. Yet it raises a question I struggle with from time to time.

I am a sinner and have no right to question what God does, yet I am tempted by thoughts in which I wonder from time to time why Christ/God, who alone loves mankind, allows poor, sinful, ignorant sinners like me to be deceived by the many religious charlatans and false prophets who are in the world, especially if this deceit results in our ruin. I have spent my life in false religions, seeking the truth. I was Protestant for 52 years of my life, then Catholic, and only now, at 73 years of age, am I soon to be (God willing) chrismated into the true Church, one, holy, catholic, and apostolic, the Orthodox faith, this Pascha. While I rejoiced at coming home to the true Church, the faith "once delivered to the apostles," and unchanged through the centuries, my choices in ignorance have left a trail of wreckage behind me which I cannot change. My children have nothing to do with God because of being raised in heretical Baptist Fundamentalism of the most hateful kind. This grieves me and angers me that these theological liars are allowed to even speak. Heresy produces a ruinous fruit in the lives of families and countries.

Nonetheless, Glory to God in all things. I can only trust that in His goodness and mercy He will eventually undo the many damages in my life that false teaching has done.

Pray for me, please, as I continue my journey to the true Church!

I dunno why folks live in deception for a while, but at some point we will know, and even then we’ll see how it will be for our salvation.

While I see your point, don’t beat yourself up too much for your old life as a Protestant. All you can do now is witness to your kids the ancient Faith and live it for them. You never know….
