  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

A game: Have you ever...

His 'word' is in us all... but, not being perfect... our understanding is forever flawed

If one person COULD assimilate and utilise
ALL of, the knowledge and wisdom
that has EVER BEEN on this planet

he /she, would still not approach the extent of God's knowledge

~
Earth with it's 'molten iron' core is a massive Dynamo
and this 'supports' a magnetosphere around it [an electromagnetic field]

Imagine the sun, also having one of these [as a nucleus]

and the planets, being it's electrons ???? [trapped in orbit about their nucleus]

and... then think-on, to our solar system having a similar field
and being an integral part of the universe, which, also has such a field
and now... why stop at a single universe ? what... if there are many universes
all, parts of a multiverse
which in turn, is only a single electron around a single atom
of, just one, our Lord's Brain-cells
How mighty is then, our God, who has created all-things

The THREE IN ONE, is very very old Sis'

HYE wondered why, when the human brain is so-much more complex
than the largest computer ever built
that man cannot compete with one mathematically ?
and yet...
the most clever computer ever built
cannot yet deduce 'stuff' that even an infant can learn to accomplish

[I did write.. 'yet']

Yes, it's all incredibly amazing isn't it?, and I bet mankind has hardly scratched the surface of the universe. There is even some stuff that scientists can't see, but deduce it is there because of,,,something,,,can't remember what....something little which goes right through things I thin k, can't remember name. Also dark matter. (Not well up on this stuff as you can see LOL)

HYE wondered how scary it might be if mankind ever did invent some sort of "android" that could function virtually like a human (have read too many sci fi books LOL)

yep... re: android

but 'man'
cannot manufacture, mechanical muscle to occupy the same space
as human muscle YET... nor replace a thinking brain YET
so, it will be some long-while YET... until
the 'person' next to us, announces that it
is a 100% replacement for God's work in us

Dark energy... blanes... anti-matter...
black holes... with, their time-distortion/warping
and matter destruction and recreation of, energy and matter jets
Wimps, Machos and Neutrinos
all have yet to be discovered, properties/origins/meanings

HYE wondered how TV's work
ie: how a radio signal is received and protrayed as an image

* wimps = Weakly Interacting Massive particles
* machos = Massively Interacting Massive Particles

:) YES, still don't understand it properly...and now theyre turning digital...understand that even less:lost::lost::lost::lost: these are the black holes my mind hurtles into when trying to understand certain things :D

Nearly drove someone mad years ago when they were trying to explain how tv worked....I had so many questions. Also probably nearly drove my bro-in-law mad (he is an aircraft engineer) when I was asking him all kinds of questions about planes. The trouble is I often approach things from maybe unconventional angles, because of the way my mind works...I need to try and visualise or figure things out a bit myself in order to finally grasp something.
It used to drive me nuts in chemistry at school, cos we'd do some experiment, but there seemed to be no application...also I thought what's the point of knowing this when I haven't a clue where magnesium or sulphur or whatever comes from. I always want to get right down to the nitty gritty - and of course I haven't time to study everything I would like to.

HYE wondered what really makes us human? I mean, if there were manufactured an android that to all intents was like a human, and there was enough "brain connections" in it to react to situations and even to react with emotions, would it SEEM human, or would we detect a difference? It would of course have no spirit - would that make a difference?

HYE wondered what really makes us human? etc etc

For sure... 'something' would have to monitor and edit it's conscience
the state whereby ... it,
would understand that for it, to survive amidst it's known environment
for long enough to understand and maintain it
it would first
itself, have-to survive and it would need to understand and care-for
its environment
iow: LEARN how-it can ensure its own survival

It would need to learn how to recreate itself
and how to care for its progeny
make plans and engage in creating power /sustenance
for itself and its progeny

Consequently... it would need to 'revere' itself as an entity
not unique,
but, with a preciousness of, BEING
as opposed to being only a list of constituent parts
still to be assembled

Without such a conscious 'spirit' it would have
NO-PURPOSE or USEFULNESS
beyond itself nor NEED TO SURVIVE
A VERSION of... 'I AM' / 'YOU ARE' / 'THEY ARE' / 'WE ARE'
is a required fundamental consideration that WOULD make that 'difference'

HYE... smiled at your reflection in a mirror, when you have been feeling-low ?

TRY IT !!!.... it will MAKE YOUR DAY!!!

as for probs with chemistry
maybe another look at the... Periodic Table would enlighten you further ...
elements [combinations of] make different atomic structures ~ materials

:) Thanks for your detailed posts.....yes, that's a good idea, about the Perodic Table I mean.

Yes, I have actually done that...it actually makes one laugh!

No.... being a tidy person I throw my 'skins' in the bin

HYE failed to clean up adequately and been 'embarrassed' by this shortcoming ?

Oh yes - for example I don't necesarily notice cobwebs...besides, being a sentimental type of person over some things, I don't like to remove a cobweb that's still got the spider inhabiting it. I think, poor spider, it's gone to all that effort to make that beautiful web, and if I get rid of it, it'll have to make another.
I even find the poem "The Walrus and the Carpenter" extremely sad...it brings tears to my eyes! Simply because that sort of thing can happen to people in real life.

HYE had a pet other than your current one?

oh yes loads... pick a pet subject

I have given dogs... the best I could afford them
the best care I could knowledgeably proffer
the best medical care that is available
and 'rest' when in my heart and mind, to go on, they would 'suffer'
I gave them my LOVE

HYE ... known that you had failed someone... and could have, done much more

Yes, sadly, also looking inretrospect...only not sure whether given same circumstances over again I would have done any better.

HYE gone out of your front door to go somewhere, and suddenly realised you've still got your slippers on or some other unsuitable attire? Or not brushed your hair or whatever?

Yes! I've been to an aerobics class wearing shorts, with the previous occasions pair of knickers still inside them! Part way through the class I realised, and surreptiously removed them. As we were doing floor exercises, at the time, I folded the top of the towel I was using to lie on, and hid them in the fold. By the end of the session I had forgotten what I'd done and picked up the towel, so see my knickers hurtling across the floor for all to see!

HYE completely forgotten a social invitation and not turned up?

I am not sure where I am with the questions now as I believe the question "HYE said something you regretted immediately" has already been answered. I see page 34 listed but can't seem to get there. Oh well here goes.

I was sharing my frustration about the head of special education services here in my school dsitrict. This was many years ago when my children were small and before I started working for the district myself. I was at a special ed related event. Anyway as I am venting my frustration who should show up behind me but THE HEAD OF SPECIAL ED! I was pretty embarassed at the time but I am not sure he heard me. If he did he never let on and we eventually developed a pretty good relationship. Jan

HYE hooked yourself on a door knob or car handle or something as you walked by? (with a bag strap or what ever). PS I do it all the time. :(

That would be embarassing, Jan!

Oh really you do that to? I thought I was the only one. I figure it must look pretty funny to someone watching, kind of slap stick but if I had to do it for a laugh theres no way I could. It is remarkable though how often it happens.

Yes I have left my purse/wallet at home. It is very frustrating isn't it.

Hye gone to work with a piece of clothing inside out? or different coloured socks etc.

I have gone to work wearing navy shoes...thinking they were my black ones or vice versa. (I often buy the same shoe style in both colors if I find them comfortable.)

Along these same lines, have you ever put an item on top of your car while you got in and then driven off with it still on top of the car? Once I drove about 2 miles to a friends house with a pie on top of my car. When, she came out to get in the car (we were going to a luncheon) she asked me if I knew there was a pie on top of my car?:D:o

noooooooooooo

HYE blown instead of slurped your tomato soup in a restaurant?

No!??

HYE when shopping, picked up something to buy (say, like a newspaper, absent-mindedly tucked it under your arm whilst looking for other purchases, and then nearly walked out of the shop without paying, because you'd forgotten it was there?
I've almost done this..given myself the cold sweats. Terrible if one were to get done for shop-lifting by inadvertently taking a paper out of the shop!

I remember my grandmother years ago absent-mindedly walking out of the local greengrocers with a cabbage unpaid for. Fortunately, she was a regular customer and the shopkeeper knew her.
When she realized, she rushed back to the shop in great consternation, but the chap just smiled and said "I knew you'd be back".
