CF is a wonderful site already, but especially since we have a newer owner and our members are not allowed to discuss site direction in any way, shape, or form, one wonders if a new forum might come in handy.

Certainly, there must be some members who might have ideas that could promote better site attendance, help stop the hemorrhaging of existing staff volunteers, and make CF the benchmark of financial vehicles it was designed to be.

The rule against campaigning would have to be lifted for a new forum like this to function properly.

But, I can also understand if the Powers That Be are happy enough with the status quo. I'm sure the current manner in which advice is given to the site's owner is more than adequate, despite the slipping numbers all around.

I wouldn't want to step on anyone's toes.

It just seems to me that if your site is getting advice from about 10 people, and that advice isn't working, it may be time to open the floor for discussion of some new ways to get this site back on the map.

Any interest?

I think this is basically an awesome idea, one of the best ideas put forth in a long time.

Having an entire area to openly discuss the forum's improvement, condition, future, etc. with other members and with staff and hopefully perhaps techs and the like (whomever is responsible for actually implementing and working on change) would be beneficial.

Fostering communication between the members, staff, and techs of this forum is important, even vital, and it has gone far, far neglected. We get reported and actioned off for complaining about things in public, or even just discussing them... and our only recourse is to run off in some lame secluded area where we are to talk one on one with a staff member ONLY and no one else. No one else can say "Hey I agree," or "Hey I get that problem too, and you know I have a great suggestion about it as well" ... there's zero comradery, zero community!

It is good and healthy for us all to discuss these types of things, not only with the higher ups, but with each other. If the administration of this board can't possibly understand why, frankly I question why we are running a community at all.

That's what this is at the end of the day. A community.. a family.

Or at least it should be.

It's all of our community. Maybe the owner holds the purse strings and the advisors control the spice, but seriously, we're still all still in this together.

We deserve to talk about it, together.

Fact of the matter is that discussions about how a site functions are usually good for the site. I suspect it has a lot to do with people feeling pleased that their input is sought and it goes a L O N G way to providing the kind of healthy atmosphere a good site has.

Thanks for the support, folks!

To put things in contrast, somebody might post 4 good ideas about improving the site, recieve 4 warnings for "campaigning," and get a 90 day ban automatically.

I think it makes sense to have a forum where good ideas can evolve into workable strategies for this site.

The current "Site Suggestions From Supporters" forum does not seem to address this issue for two main reasons.

1) It only allows ideas from supporters.
2) It is largely a tech-oriented forum where substantial "directional" ideas are prohibited.

But wouldn't this be too much change?

A lot of work has gone into making this place exclusive by weeding out the hippys, liberals and free thinkers.

CF has built a brand on it's steady and healthy policy of censorship and flexible application of rules (which are interpreted liberally).

If you are going to make this too open, CF will lose it's reputation, lose it's branding.

If people want to talk about Christ their are plenty of other boards they can go to. We don't have to cater to everyone!

The last thing we want is too many questions about Jesus.

That's the argument I expected to hear, Davin.

I'll need to think about which is more important; site profits or exclusion of the undesirables.

Both are certainly worthy causes.

Quite right good sir! I hope some folks are receptive to this thread in a positive manner.

If I was a betting man, I wouldn't put money on it, lol.

However, if the new owner A) sees this before it vaporizes and B) He is a person of decency, we may have a shot this time.

There are a lot of good people with amazing ideas who could really turn this site around. Alas, we see very little of these ideas under our current rules.

I can think of 3 quick ways to get this site humming in no time.

But listing one of them would be the death of this thread . . .

Me too!

I'm sure we'll find out soon enough, though!

I know this is far off...but what if the new owner was a progressive liberal christian? That would be an interesting change!
