Under the Protestant/Sola Scriptura (the Bible alone) theological system, is it your belief, and would you agree, there exists no person or no institution that can infallibly decide what is true and what is false for Christians when it comes to matters of faith and/or morals?
There does exist someone who can infallibly decide what is true and what is false. The Holy Spirit. When Jesus left, He gave us the Holy Spirit, the Comforter, who He stated would teach us all things, and bring to remembrance, whatsoever Jesus had said. Jn. 14:26. The Holy Spirit would guide us into ALL truth. Jn. 16:13
Jesus own words tells us that He did not keep anything back, or in secret when He taught on this earth Jn. 18:20.
If you happen to answer yes to this question, my next question would be.... under this theological system, would you agree there is no sure way you could have absolute assurance of anything you believe being true? In other words, there is no way of knowing the truth?
The early church knew the truth already, they even wrote it down for us.
I Jn. 2:21,27- 20 But you have an unction from the Holy One; and ye know all things...27 But the anointing which you have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him.
I Pet. 1:25 But the word of the Lord endureth forever. And this is the word which by the gospel is preached unto you.
Matt. 28:20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you...
Yet, Jesus says, "Know the truth and the truth will set make you free." (John 8:32)
We have the truth, and are set apart by such...
Jn. 17:17 Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.
So, let me leave you with this last question: For a Christian, what is the pillar and ground of the truth - i.e., the upholder and foundation of the truth? Is it the Bible? Yes or no?
The Christian is the church, and they are the pillar that upholds, supports, shores up the truth. But the truths they uphold are found in what we call the Scriptures...Jesus Words.
How do we understand knowledge, understand doctrine?
Isa. 28:9-10 Whom shall he teach knowledge? and whom shall he make to understand doctrine?... For precept must be upon precept, precept upon precept: line upon line, line upon line :here a little, and there a little.
13 But the word of the Lord was unto them precept upon precept....
They find proper understanding by looking in the word of the Lord.
When one is ready to truly accept real truth, it will be taught to them... until then, if they are not sincere, or truly open to truth.. God will cause them to believe only lies.
II Thess. 2:10...because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved. 11And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie: 12 That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had had pleasure in unrighteousness.
And good health to you.
