  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Hmm just for those who want to have sum fun, whats your ideas on having a wedding... any cool fun different ideas, or maybe even you wana have a traditional one?

I would love it to be in the evening, and then a party not "reception". I'll end up having many teenagers and that at mine i suspect, so i dno't think i'll have the norm.. Dark room lit with lights, and doign things cheaper and easier, and most importantly, things we want to do, not what everyone wants....

My idea for a fun wedding is to throw a party. As people arrive they are greeted by the bride and goom and their respective families, given something to drink and eat, music is playing, a montage of photos of the couple plays, people can dance or whatever...

And about 45 minutes after you told people the wedding was going to start, you gagther people together and get their attention and have the wedding ceremony. People will be far more relaxed, the stuffiness will be gone, everyone there will have alrady been warmly greeted by the wedding party... The ceremony can be as formal or informal as one wishes, and at the conclusion of the ceremony, the party and celebration continue!
Now if only I can talk one of my kids into doing this!

I know I want a really small wedding. I don't want it to be traditional at all. I would like to get married on a Beach, with just parents, and siblings. I would like it to be really casual, no dress and tux. I don't want to have a "reception" just the few family members maybe come over to our house for a BBQ. I guess my plans might change if FH has something else in mind.

Hmm I've got lots of diferent ideas, but i want it traditional to the sense of in a church and walking up the ailse etc, and reasonably traditional ceremony, but non traditional "reception" summin like a party more than a "sit down meal" etc... Music and all the rest i want! I even can think of sum where that i could have the reception.. :p

Mmm... Could be interesting really... But summin else i want... it be all up around 2000US tops. I kno that mite be a bit out of the norm, but i don't see the need for a MASSIVELY expensive one

Well we are not having a "wedding" so to speak. Both our parents, siblings, and one friend each (possibly two, we are still negotiating) are invited to our nuptials, with a minister to say the vowes and be declared husband and wife, blah blah...very informal. From there our departure for the honeymoon will take place. When we get back, our parents are throwing a themed beach bbq for all family and friends to attend. We finally agreed on Hawaiian for the theme (it seemed fitting with the beach idea, lol), so every one will have lei's, grass skirts, the whole shebang. We are hiring a photographer for the event which my fh and I are paying for.

My fh originally wanted a traditional wedding but I wanted something fun and memorable...and more importantly, something different. This is how I have envisioned it since I was very young, so I am happy he gave in. He is almost more excited about it than I am now!

The most important thing is to do whatever will make you the happiest and not to compromise with family members who disagree. His parents are VERY Catholic and were not happy when we told them our plans, but after all, it isn't their "wedding", it's ours...and we are saving every one TONS of money by doing it this way. Luckily I have the personality to make anyone excited about anything, so now his folks are bragging about our "original" idea to every one they know. Now we are trying to slow them down with official plans because we are trying to wait until the summer of 2007 (fh likes 07/07/07 for the date...I like 09/08/07 which is also our "dating" anniversary)...but who'da thunk that the 'rents would be pushing for a "wedding" faster than the couple!! What a family we will be!

No. It just sounds like fun! I don't like the whole business about everyone arriving and waiting.. and at the worst weddings, hanging around and waiting again while photos are taken.

It seems so much more participatory than a traditional wedding which makes me always feel like a spectator.

Plus, it always seems like everyone is waiting to breathe one huge sigh of relief when the ceremony is over. Now they can relax and have fun! I'd rather have everyone, especially the bride and groom and immediate families, have fun and fellowship from the start.

Lastly, I hate things that are overproduced - and weddings always seem to be. It seems that the people end up taking back seat to the structure of a service and traditions that were for the upper classes 50 years ago.

A friend of mine got married last year, and although he had a fairly traditional ceremony and reception, it was cool, cause they played a kids song in the middle, and the music they walked out to was muppet version of munumenah (i dnt know how its spelt).. was a crack up!

i love bliz' idea! i can't believe someone else wants to do that too!

my idea was to have a big outdoor bbq with music playing, maybe some silly games out like Taboo, Scattergories, Balderdash, etc... just non-competitive games (no Monopoly allowed! lol). Everyone would be socializing, having fun... then at a specifid time, the ceremony would start. I want to have the "audience" in a sort of... circle around me and my FH. At some time I'd like our families and anyone else who wants to to come up and lay hands on us to pray over us and our marriage.... after the ceremony the party would continue and maybe there'd be something else added in there for fun :)

I'm single without a man in sight, but I've already decided that I want to get married at Walt Disney World!!!!! Disney weddings are varied-they can be large affairs filled with all things Disney-complete with Minnie and Mickey Mouse, or couples can choose to have a small intimate ceremony without a hint of Disney.

WDW is where I am getting married, but this Daisy just needs to find her Donald :D

Yeah, it would be nice to have a wedding outside but I wouldn't want to have to depend on the weather, that's for sure! :)

You know, I'd had my heart set on an outdoor wedding (and had the perfect place - on top of a cliff overlooking the ocean. Gorgeous!). However when my future-husband and I visited the site on a normal day, we were almost blown off the cliff by the wind.

Still, I wanted an outdoor wedding and tried to make a wedding in the park work. My parents insisted that inside the church would be much safer, and I finally gave in. And what do you know, the day of the wedding was fine (after a two weeks of rain) but it was scorching hot! Outside would have been muddy and smelly and even more uncomfortably hot than inside.

All that to say I'd be practical rather than insisting on something that seems nice in theory. The weather can be so unpredictable!
