A definition of sin

I heard a preacher recently give an interesting definition of sin:

"Sin is the act of taking something by force, that God would give by grace."

For example, look at the sexually immoral. God gives us the pleasure of sex saved for within the marriage bed, but people use force to experience it elsewhere, where God says it is a sin, and where there are hurts behind it.

Do people agree with this definition? Is there anywhere this definition doesn't apply.

Any other definitions?

Read Romans 14

Romans 14:23 And he that doubteth is ****** if he eat, because he eateth not of faith: for whatsoever is not of faith is sin.

That definition is in essense true, because God created the universe in which we live; Everything on earth has a reason and is acceptable when used rightfully... Sin has caused man to fall away from God, and the direct result of that is to misuse that which God has given him. For example, God gave us emotion so we could love Righteousness and hate Evil. Sin makes us do the opposate. God gave us nature, as reminder of his wonderful power, but these days, some choose to WORSHIP IT instead. Whatever man touches he ruins, and that is why we need his saving grace and atonement for sin.

So yes, you could define sin by saying it is the act of ustilizing a Godly componant of life in an ungodly manner.
