  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Has this issue been discussed yet? I don't see anything about it by browsing the title.

If not, should we talk a little about it? Something might happen or start to happen at that time. It is after all pretty amazing that Mayan people could identify this particular year (and date !).

OK, while this thread stay in this forum, I may as well ask a few questions related to church.

How should church deal with the issue of 2012?

1. Totally ignore it?
2. Tell congregation that it is not a concern?
3. Tell congregation that we should keep vigil?
4. Tell congregation to prepare for it?

Should church even spend time to explain what this issue is about?

But.. the London Olympics!!

The Mayan calendar suggested the event would begin in December. Somehow their calendar has more weight in my recognition. Since they could point out the year (unthinkable ability!), why not the month?

Here is a point: would the thing going to happen be sudden or gradual? I think this will decide how would church respond to this issue. Remember that the alarm of Y2K was very specific in timing, and a lot of preparations were done before hand. So, it seems that all churches did not really think it was going to be a problem. So, if the London Olympics were to happen successfully, then probably nobody would worry too much about it. However, the Lord does say things would happen in a sudden way.

Emphasize greater trust in God and more frequent repentance should things in 2012 be in the hole.

The church should not be worried at all about the year 2012. No one knows when the world will end (when Jesus returns)! The church is always to be prepared for His coming, but not to worry about it. The congregation should remain faithful to Him and be assured of their salvation at the cross for the forgiveness of their sins and know that when He returns they will have everlasting life.

Of course.

However, should we also consider this issue on the practical side? What should the church do "in between" the occurrence of disastrous events and the coming of the Lord? Here we assumed the case of PreTrib rapture. The situation would be much worse otherwise.

On this regard, my question, in fact, should be: what should the congregation do? What "action" should be taken?

I'll put it in with my Y2K scare.

I'll put it in with my Y2K scare.

Y2K was not a hoax. Even in my local high school, the computer timing in their computer system malfunctioned in spite of their advanced preparation. People in computer industry did do a lot of preparation on that event.

My point is: just like the false prophecy becomes more frequent at the end time, other signs also become more obvious. Should church prepare for the influence or the consequence of these "signs"? Should church do something special to deal with potential problems? In this particular case, for example, should message from the pulpit include the year of 2012? If it does, with what tune?
