• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

In anther post Golden Violet said "Knowing about God's word helps us see ourselves the way God sees us. We need to know how important we are to Jesus."

This is the difference between how to handle self harm from a secular perspect and a Biblical one.
When we include the Bible we include all the promises God gave us:

"He will never leave us or forsake us". Deuteronomy 31:5-8
"He loves us John 3:16"
We are so important that he knows the very number of hairs on our head and has that many thoughts of us (Psalm 139).
"1 Peter 2:9 But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people belonging to God, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light>"
No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it. 1 Corinthians 10:12-14

I could go on and on. And I encourage anyone else to add to the small list of verses here.

Basically a biblical view says:
1. We have value and are special because God made us and loves us
2. God doesn't want us to harm anything that he has made because it has value and importance to Him.
3.God will provide a way out when we are tempted.
4. We will never be alone.

I think that a Christian view to this subject is pretty difficult to give: God loves us even if we hurt ourselves and him by this, but i think that he is sad in one way, that we are not able to feel his love then...

Some verses to add:
Zephania 3:17 "The Lord thy God in the midst of thee is mighty; he will save, he will rejoice over thee with joy; he will rest in his love, he will joy over you with singing.

St. John 8:11 (freely translated...:) "Jesus Christ says: I do not condemn you"

No i don't think you offended anyone...I think you stumped them! I know i was a little intimidated to try and come up with a good reponse to such an important question. And, i had to wait until i was in a little better mood, in order to give a good answer.

Sometimes in our struggle, it gets dark and it gets hard to shine out that light for others.

As someone who is recoverying from self harm, i am praying for you...that the Lord will show you the way out. I know the struggle isn't easy AT ALL. In fact its downright one of the hardest things i've ever done. But it is doable.

*hugs*

There is tons of stuff in the Bible relevant to keeping ourselves from harm. I will say that being made in God's image is one of the top priorities. He loves us so much that He made us for companionship and He calls Himself "Abba Father" a term of extremem endearment. The One who loves so much even keeps our tears, although they may be in another form, in a bottle is a great reason to become injury free. Our attitude toward others and ourselves is suppose be as this: Kind, loving, gentle, building up and not tearing down, providing help and healing, to learn what it means to abide with the Lord our God even as Jesus does. Only then will true peace flood our beings and remember that it is the truth that will set us free and the Word is the Truth and Christ is the Word. Think about these things before you do anything you shouldn't the next time.
