  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

A Book.

I just ran across a title of a book that kinda stopped me dead in my tracks, titled:

"Why Do Christians Shoot Their Wounded?"

Anybody ever heard of it, or have any thoughts about the title of it and what it possibly means?

Thank you kindly.

i've heard of the book.

the concept basically means . when people are wounded or show weakness . the church gathers to be the lousy comforters that job had .

I'm an "underliner" and "highlighter". And I often rewrite what I have read (without looking) to see if I have made the words and thoughts, "my own", in the way that I see and understand the subjects.

That's a pet peeve of mine.

I have such low respect for "scripture quoters" who only Copy/Paste scripture, as though they don't know that we all have Bibles. If you know and believe you understand a scripture.... Fine.... quote it, if that is necessary... THEN tell me, in your own words, what that passage means to you.

Copy/Pasters prove only that they know how to operate a computer. I firmly believe that if a person cannot take God's word into their hearts and minds, and then talk about that precept or concept or principle, in today's English.... then they probably really don't know what the author was actually saying in the first place..... only what got printed on a page.

Great post, and attitude.

I didn't know we were supposed to prove we know anything. I thought we were suppose to love each other and to provoke each other to love and good works. Ive never once been offended by reading a scripture without commentary added. I like the word.

No better way to love someone then to not insult them with our words, words hurt. James says let every man be quick to listen and slow to speak, so scripture without commentary seems like the safest way to not offend others with our words, while also encouraging each other to love and do good works, because that's what scripture does.

I'm still trying to wade through this little book. Turns out, it is not as good as I first thought, and I keep just setting it down for days.

I'm in the 9th chapter now (finally) and it is picking up a little, but still nothing I would recommend.

Hmm ...

Are there any gems you've gotten from it so far that really stick out to you which you have time to share? Something easily summarized in a few points, to where you don't have to type out an essay IOW.

i got the book...one thing in particular stood out to me in Chapter I where someone (her Bible study leader) asked a woman who suffered with depression if she had confessed her sin of depression yet.

Any thoughts on just this piece of it?
