  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

A Book.

i'm sooooooo sorry that your precious friend experienced such woundings and pain. (((hug)))

I just ordered this book (a 2nd hand copy) and i plan on delving into it and meditating and studying it.

Perhaps you would consider sharing some of what you learn here; I think we could all benefit from the discussion ...

It seems to me that the book talks about our failure as Christians to obey Jesus' command to "judge not, lest you be judged". When faced with someone's revealed falleness our response should be to reflect on our own falleness, hidden or not, and not to consider such a person as any worse than our own pitiable selves.
But for the grace of God, there stand I. Now how can I be a vehicle of God's grace to this person. We are saved in community, through the love and mercy of our fellow christians. If we don't see Christ in our fallen brothers and sisters and meet them in their need, we have the parable of the sheep and the goats to teach us where we will eventually find ourselves standing.

Forgive me, as I am the last person who should preach such things to others. Consider this me thinking out loud about my own failure to refrain from judging others.

We're all in the boat together....and 'tis a GOOD thing to think out loud, for your struggle, and mine, are ALL of ours, for we all are struggling, in one way or another.....

thank you for sharing. i found it edifying.

I have a copy on the way to me. It sounds like it will be interesting.

"Why Do Christians Shoot Their Wounded?"
Can I borrow it after you are done with it? Thanks

NKJV}
Rev 13:3
And I saw one of his heads as if it had been mortally wounded, and his deadly wound was healed.
And all the world marveled and followed the beast.

Rev 13:14
And he deceives those who dwell on the earth by those signs which he was granted to do in the sight of the beast, telling those who dwell on the earth to make an image to the beast who was wounded by the sword and lived.

Shipping included, the used copy I bought (the way I buy almost all of my books), was less than $6. A cheeseburger, fries, and a coke would cost you that much.

I have literally hundreds of books. I much prefer them to videos.
I have ... maybe 30 books or so ? I also can't stand videos over 20 minutes in length lol.

I used to read much more. I'm more "hands on" oriented. If I'm reading, I want it to be something I can read while *doing*, so to speak. I want everything to be a Chilton's manual :)

I'm an "underliner" and "highlighter". And I often rewrite what I have read (without looking) to see if I have made the words and thoughts, "my own", in the way that I see and understand the subjects.

That's a pet peeve of mine.

I have such low respect for "scripture quoters" who only Copy/Paste scripture, as though they don't know that we all have Bibles. If you know and believe you understand a scripture.... Fine.... quote it, if that is necessary... THEN tell me, in your own words, what that passage means to you.

Copy/Pasters prove only that they know how to operate a computer. I firmly believe that if a person cannot take God's word into their hearts and minds, and then talk about that precept or concept or principle, in today's English.... then they probably really don't know what the author was actually saying in the first place..... only what got printed on a page.

I hear you. My first Bible I um ... kind of stole :) (I left another one in it's place in a sort of communal reading area). I filled that thing with so many highlights, and extra writings, and stray notes I had written on all kinds of things lol.

A witness is someone who has SEEN something. A parrot can quote scripture, but that's not a witness.

The copy/paste peeps are somewhat like the Trekkies. They may know all about every episode of Star Trek, where the continuity errors are, how to speak Klingon ... but that's not the same as experiencing being beamed up, using an actual phaser, and meeting the real Captain Kirk. So to speak. So I'm the same way with people ... I appreciate they may have memorized some stuff that I may need to know, but if they can translate that into practical, real world things (that perhaps they have *witnessed* or more) ... then they go from being a potential "parrot", to a Living example of the very thing they are taking about. A treasure I can now share in, hopefully :)

Meh, I'm mixed when it comes to debating with someone. I rarely do it unless I'm looking to learn something.
