A Bare Naked
Judith Gayle Smith
----------------------------------------------
A bare naked bulb danced light
on a frightened huddle
of pink pudding.
...a frightened huddle.
Pinkly flesh rolled unashamedly through
unforgiving gaps of a too
small hospital gown
...unforgiving gaps
clinging protectively to her sweaty,
trembling form of shrinking
panicky exhaustion.
...trembling form
She lay for fourteen hours terrified.
Thought she was dying.
She prayed to die.
...thought she was dying.
A nocturnal bathroom trip tripped her
where she had felt safe,
returning to bed.
...she had felt safe.
A scrunch of white hair perched atop
her once so proud head
now ghastly white.
...her once so proud head
Chin to breast, she waited, confused -
resigned now, patient.
Almost mindless.
...resigned now, patient.
She had always been so strong.
My nurturerer, matriarch
Now needing.
...my nurturer.
I discovered her there, astonished -
in sheer horror as she quaked
in pain mentally.
...in sheer horror
I grabbed her so soft hands, waking her
from the stupor she forced
herself to escape to.
...from the stupor
"Mom!", I bawled! "What happened
to my bravest, dearest -
my sweet darling?"
...my bravest, dearest
She poured listlessly into
my encircling hug like
spilled pudding.
...my encircling hug
We took her home to live with us.
The doctor refused to release
her into her own care.
...the doctor refused
Mama just gave up inside.
She died, no longer
free to live.
...she died.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Rev.12:17 "And the dragon was wroth with the woman, and went to make war with the remnant of her seed, which keep the Commandments of GOD and have the testimony of Jesus Christ."
