  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

pre-press? I'm afraid I have no idea what that is! Something to do with the media before it goes to print? :)

hmmm 12 hr shifts - i'm lucky if i can manage 3 hour shifts :D

web design is cool....until you have web designers version of writers block! Struggling with a site right now - that the client wants to see tomorrow.

it's also hard when there aren't enough clients around - i can't make a living out of it though things have picked up considerably over the last 12 months

ahh, boring work sure can be frustrating! I worked a 3-day-a-week job once (hours were great and pay wasn't bad) but the problem was, there really wasn't enough work for me to do - so at times it got REALLY boring, and really hard trying to come up with stuff to do to fill in my time - it was admin work, I ended up redesigning the entire filing system for my department and cataloging the entire technical library - I remember one particular day going to the library (there weren't people in there very often) and hiding in a corner and actually falling asleep - I didn't realise I had a sleep disorder that was making me so tired - and the bordom really didn't help!

the work I do now is much more interesting - both the web design and the radio stuff - never imagined I'd end up with a career in radio but it's definately heading that way - amazing how a big change can be just around the corner and you have no idea it's there :)

Any ideas what you might do if you decide to make that "change"?

well, i think i would first have to resign. Having thought about the change for some time, and looking around for options, i am coming to the conclusion that I just may have to quit and perhaps move over east, where there seem to be more opportunities. The other option is to find a day position doing similar to what I am doing, there seem to be a few around, however i know that I wouldn't last long, because once again, the work is not very stimulating.
It's tough when you get to my age work wise. Whenever I look at my interests they always come back to the creative arena, however there are not many professional outlets for this, and the ones that exist are highly competitive.
So sometimes I think that i may have to continue in the industry i am in (having a day position), perhaps working part-time, and continuing in my own creative pursuits in my own time, to keep me sane.
The other option is going back to uni, perhaps a teaching degree (for art).
hmmn.
Having rather too much time on my hands at work in the wee hours of the morning, i tend to look up a lot of contemporary art/galleries websites. It sure makes such a difference to a site when it is well thought out, colours etc.

ahh, so you're out west eh? I've never been further west than Warnambool myself.

I think you're probably right about more work being available over east. More people tends to mean more jobs in general I think.

Don't let your age put you off a career change, as I said, I never had any idea I'd end up starting a career in radio and I was already 32 when that happened. And as you know, God could have anything around the corner waiting for you - you just don' tknow :)

I think you need to start thinking about what you'd LOVE to do - and see if you can make a move in that direction....but I guess you have to have some idea what kind of thing you'd like to do.

I was one of those people who never had a clue "what i wanted to be when i grew up" and suddenly found myself grown up one day still not knowing what i wanted to do. I remember in a job interview once, I was asked "what do you want to do as a career" I said, i don't know, but I'd like to somehow combine my computer skills (i'm one of those annoying people who finds computers really easy) with something creative. It wasn't until last year i realised that that's suddenly where I had ended up with the web design - though I wouldn't have pictured it at the time (of course, the web was in it's baby days then and I hadn't ever been "on" it!)

anyway.....think - and pray - about what you WANT to do - what you would enjoy doing - and see if He might be leading you down that path somewhere - perhaps even somewhere totally unexpected.

:)
