  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Without a doubt, "Your Name" (Kimi no Na wa), the 2016 film by Makoto Shinkai!

Prior to that film, the record for the highest box office in Japan for any film (not just anime) went to Spirited Away from Studio Ghibli. But "Your Name" has now beat even that record, and rightly so. Many are calling Makoto Shinkai "the next Miyazaki," a title he thoroughly detests. It is amazing. I first saw it on YouTube (rental) six months ago. I was so impressed I then bought the DVD and have watched with both Japanese audio with subtitles and the English dub, which is think is a very good dub. You would enjoy either one of them. I would recommend starting with the English dub so that you can appreciate the truly breathtaking visuals in this film and not be distracted by reading subtitles.

As for the plot, it is a mystery and a romance, so don't spoil it for yourself by looking up the plot on Wikipedia so that you can enjoy how the mystery (and the romance) unfold. What you should know is what is right there on the DVD box, which is that the story involves body swapping between two complete strangers who don't even live in the same town. One is in Tokyo and the other is in a small rural town far from the city. But if you think it is just another Freaky Friday movie, you would be wrong. As for how to see the movie, as I said it is available on YouTube for rental or purchase. It is also on Netflix if you happen to be in the UK. It is not on American Netflix. Or you can buy the DVD.

I would love to hear what others who have seen this film think of it.

Violet Evergarden, ....
I've seen the series on Netflix, and a special. But there is supposedly "Violet Evergarden, the Movie" in which Violet finally meets the major, but it is not available in the US. Any word on when we might be able to see it?

We got about the same amount of information on the movie. Haha, if I had to estimate I'd assume it would be coming in December as the Movie released in December 2020, and a year to do a dub for a show as popular as Violet Evergarden seems appropriate. I'd love to see The Movie in theaters dubbed. My girlfriend and I loved the wonderful storytelling in VE and the music, man the music!!

I was also impressed by the story of Kyoto Animation which produced this series. They pioneered a new respect for their employees in both pay and working conditions (unusual in Japanese animation) and then suffered that terrible firebombing in 2019 that killed 36 of their people and injured 34 others, as well as destroying most of the buildings computers and equipment. Such a shame.

Yeah. I heard one of the directors or the director for the show got killed in that, it was very tragic.
