Yes, children need examples to follow.
So if you teaching reading, you ask them to copy you.you give them books. You read to them and read with them.
If you teaching writing, you give examples for them to copy.
If you teach them maths, you show them how to work things out. Dont just throw children in the deep end and expect theyll figure it out themselves without any guidance.

An example won't teach children quadratic equations. Reading the Bible to them is a good start, but much more is required. I'm not sure I understand the phrase "trust the Lord for your child's education."

Public, private or parochial, the most successfully educated children have involved parents. Our son is learning so much about defending his faith in his public high school. We have also had a number of excellent discussions about various current topics that are helping him form his own views and convictions. It is unlikely that would have happened in a home school or parochial school.

You say that God will provide a good education for your children as if you didn't have to be practice about it. It's your responsibility to educate your children, and feed them. God provided these things through MEANS e.g. your labors. It doesn't fall out of the sky.

What other options does a single mother have?
I love the idea of homeschooling, but it doesn't seem possible to make it work out while working 9+ hours a day.
I have heard private schooling, in most cases, isn't much better than public schooling. Let alone the financial issues it brings.

I want nothing more than to keep my child from the sinful influences of the world, but it feels almost unavoidable.

You are in a very difficult position, and you are correct, private, even Christian schools are no guarantee of a god education for your children.

If you want to homeschool, start praying. Ask everyone one you know, including your pastor and elders. God will hear you prayers. There may be a way that you've never thought of.

Having just recently graduated from the public school system, and seeing what its turning into I have decided that if I have kids they will be home-schooled.

Many families have both parents working. In addition to public school some parents spent time after work making sure their children were doing their homework and teaching them additional lessons more than the teachers in the school system could assign. This gave their children an advantage over children who spent their spare time in front of a TV set in the evenings.

Moses had a speech impediment. Joseph likely dealt with serious issues being the "dad" of the Word of God - having to explain that his wife was not a harlot, and that he believed his son was the son of God, and that Mary was touched by Him (not by a man.) That has to be tough to explain to your boys, especially when they are actively procreating and (all but) sure they are the father of those children.

Esther was a humble woman whose humility ultimately vindicated her (and saved Hebrews.)

Daniel, Shedrack, Meshack and Abednego were learned men, but by no means worldly or cosmopolitan/progressive. They were kept alive because they were going to be exploited/used by Neb since they were learned. They were thrown into the fire because they were Godly and not worldly.

Those people in their time were not heroes or people others looked up to. They were not celebrities, and likely were not extolled for their talents. Today people/groups in my post

would be those same biblical heroes, and how the world would have seen them. They majority of biblical heroes were not popular, worshiped, looked at as authorities or meritorious on contemporary issues. They often came off as crazy (Noah,) unplugged (Daniel et al,) and "majority decidedly" stupid (Joseph). But, they were chosen by God - almost because the world thought they shouldn't be. There are many people who are considered in "my group" that have done some bible-worthy things in their lives - never to be heard about (directly) because they don't have a camera crew, money, or book deal. That issue goes beyond schoolhouse teaching...

Having experience with home school curriculum, I don't see how it could compete with honors or AP classes in a larger school. True academic rigor requires an expert in the subject matter. Now there are Christian home school programs online that have real teachers on video teaching the classes. My grandson, who is going into the 6th grade, is in one of these programs. He is doing much better than he did at the public school, but that is him.
I agree with you that it really depends on the kid and the schools that are available. Two of my other g-c are in public school in a small community and doing well. Two are in a Charter school that is in a community of mostly professional couples. They are being challenge academically, each kid is an individual, a must for these two gifted kids.

What's the best way to educate your children?

Of our seven children, five have never seen the inside of a government school. I don't judge parents who turn their children over to the government to raise, because we've all been so brainwashed to believe government schools are wonderful places that want the best for our children that they may sincerely believe that, but I don't get it.

While I agree that the public school system is not the place for Biblical training, it is a mission field. Some kids aren't ready for that, others are.
