• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Does God audibly speak to you in prayer?

  • Yes. God talks to me all of the time.

  • No. God speaks to me through His Word.

  • God has spoken to me in an audible voice.

Your second question is regarding things prior to us having a complete canon.

And your Scriptural proof for this theory that we can ignore Scripture teachings demonstrated in Apostolic Acts because the Apostles and those associated with them did not have the complete canon of Scripture is:
WHERE EXACTLY???

I think that this (below) is clear, unless, you've had some special revelation to say otherwise. ;)

In the past God spoke to our ancestors through the prophets at many times and in various ways, but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, and through whom also he made the universe. The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word. (Hebrews 1:1-3)

States clearly that God has spoken through the RADIANCE of His GLORY, eg His Son...

So what were you saying about ink on paper?

How God speaks-

Isaiah 30:20 And though the Lord gives you
The bread of adversity and the water of affliction,
Yet your teachers will not be moved into a corner anymore,
But your eyes shall see your teachers.

Psalm 119:24 Your testimonies also are my delight
And my counselors.

Your word I have hidden in my heart,

That I might not sin against You.
12 Blessed are You, O Lord!
Teach me Your statutes.
13 With my lips I have declared
All the judgments of Your mouth.
14 I have rejoiced in the way of Your testimonies,
As much as in all riches.
15 I will meditate on Your precepts,
And contemplate Your ways.
16 I will delight myself in Your statutes;
I will not forget Your word.

Mathew 7:28 And so it was, when Jesus had ended these sayings, that the people were astonished at His teaching, 29 for He taught them as one having authority, and not as the scribes.

Proverbs 4 Hear, my children, the instruction of a father,
And give attention to know understanding;
2 For I give you good doctrine:
Do not forsake my law
.

18 But the path of the just is like the shining sun,[a]
That shines ever brighter unto the perfect day.
19 The way of the wicked is like darkness;
They do not know what makes them stumble.
20 My son, give attention to my words;
Incline your ear to my sayings.
21 Do not let them depart from your eyes;
Keep them in the midst of your heart;
22 For they are life to those who find them,
And health to all their flesh.
23 Keep your heart with all diligence,
For out of it spring the issues of life.
24 Put away from you a deceitful mouth,
And put perverse lips far from you.
25 Let your eyes look straight ahead,
And your eyelids look right before you.
26 Ponder the path of your feet,
And let all your ways be established.
27 Do not turn to the right or the left;
Remove your foot from evil.

Psalm 119:21 Your ears shall hear a word behind you, saying,
“This is the way, walk in it,”
Whenever you turn to the right hand
Or whenever you turn to the left.

Psalm 119:18 Open my eyes, that I may see
Wondrous things from Your law.

19 I am a stranger in the earth;
Do not hide Your commandments from me.

24 Your testimonies also are my delight
And my counselors.

36 Incline my heart to Your testimonies,
And not to covetousness.
37 Turn away my eyes from looking at worthless things,
And revive me in Your way.[a]

He never said "My sheep hear the words of Christ in Scripture."

Sola's are not kat'holon... [katholikon, "according to the whole"]
Nor are they even sola... [Scriptura]
It is all kinda made up...

So your charge of EXTRA-SCRIPTURA will probably fall on deaf ears...

You're the oddest EO I've met @Arsenios
LOL.. just had to mention that!
Aren't EO's followers of Sola Scriptura?
trying to blow my mind, aren'tcha?
:help::scratch::swoon:

EDIT to say that I didn't mean odd,
I meant uniquely different than most of
the EO's I know here.

:help::scratch::swoon:

Now just a gone dog minute here!
Don't you EVEN try flattery with me!
I am old, smelly and have a bad attitude!
Besides being cute and adorable...
We do follow Sola's and nip at them, granted...
Look, little missy:
There is NOTHING ON EARTH that even BEGINS to resemble this unimaginably life-transforming Faith known as Eastern Orthodox Christianity... Nothing even close... It is absolutely slap you down wonderful, and is an unimaginable treasury of Grace adorning this fallen world... "Thou has set a table before me, in the presence of them that afflict me..." That writing is prophetic of the Christian Altar, where Christ has overcome death by His Death, and in sorrow, joy and love, we follow Him...

So OK, I perhaps AM a tad on the joyful side of things, OK?
And yes, it is perhaps insufferable...
But I can't seem to come out of it...
Dues have been paid...
Not to mention the Don'ts...

So thanks for the high 5!

Psalm 119:23 Princes also sit and speak against me,
But Your servant meditates on Your statutes.

Revelation 12:10 Then I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, “Now salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of His Christ have come, for the accuser of our brethren, who accused them before our God day and night, has been cast down.

Psalm 119:24 Your testimonies also are my delight
And my counselors.

119:109 My life is continually in my hand,
Yet I do not forget Your law.

Revelation 12:11 And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, and they did not love their lives to the death.

Revelation 12:12 Therefore rejoice, O heavens, and you who dwell in them! Woe to the inhabitants of the earth and the sea! For the devil has come down to you, having great wrath, because he knows that he has a short time.”

Psalms 119:7 Turn away my eyes from looking at worthless things,
And revive me in Your way.

2 Corinthians 4:18 while we do not look at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen. For the things which are seen are temporary, but the things which are not seen are eternal.

Colossians 3:3 If then you were raised with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ is, sitting at the right hand of God. 2 Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth. 3 For you died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. 4 When Christ who is our life appears, then you also will appear with Him in glory.

Proverbs 3:3 My son, do not forget my law,
But let your heart keep my commands;

17 Her ways are ways of pleasantness,
And all her paths are peace.
18 She is a tree of life to those who take hold of her,
And happy are all who retain her.

Psalms 1 Blessed is the man
Who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly,
Nor stands in the path of sinners,
Nor sits in the seat of the scornful;
2 But his delight is in the law of the Lord,
And in His law he meditates day and night.
3 He shall be like a tree
Planted by the rivers of water,

That brings forth its fruit in its season,
Whose leaf also shall not wither;
And whatever he does shall prosper.
4 The ungodly are not so,
But are like the chaff which the wind drives away.
5 Therefore the ungodly shall not stand in the judgment,
Nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous.
6 For the Lord knows the way of the righteous,
But the way of the ungodly shall perish.

Psalms 23 The Lord is my shepherd;
I shall not want.
2 He makes me to lie down in green pastures;
He leads me beside the still waters.
3 He restores my soul;
He leads me in the paths of righteousness
For His name’s sake.

Well, ya just can't blow off the passages of the Bible that you don't like because they do not accord with your theory of their import... It all has to fit together, and not only in one's private interpretation, but across the History of the Faith back to the beginnings... The Church has been interpreting the import of the words of Scripture ever since She wrote them so long ago, and that Sacred History of meaning has to be accounted in its own terms, and the prime feature of that is the successful praxis of the Faith as it is discipled in the Body of Christ...

I do get a tad crusty, and end up apologizing fairly regularly...

As well I should, mind you...

You did say odd, and I'm stickin' with it...
Your odd is my treasury...
And yes, I have heard hints of rumors...
That there are actually others...
Like me...
But I don't put much stock in them...

Other EO's are all in a process of transformation...
And they are in its sufferings...
And so they can be pretty serious...
I am utterly serious...
And joyful in it...

So I am keeping your 'odd' compliment...

I'll give it back if you ask...

I love insufferable. I can be kinda like that too.
A new IRL acquaintance recently commented on my happy

on how to get that way. But now that I think about it, it
could have to do with the fact that I was infant baptized
:relax: Roman catholic at that!

lol.
Me too. sometimes i get snarky and then i feel bad.
But we all do!
That "all fitting together" thing gets people.
:study:
Have to admit, it's "easier" to just rip it out,
and move on lol.
But it all fits so nicely! I'm excited to see what
new things I find in there even this week!
CF keeps me in the Word more than otherwise.
I'm not a follower of Sacred Tradition, and don't
fight me on that now! It can get ugly! :zoro:

If this is a common everyday method of God speaking to his people then where in scripture is this endorsed?

but clear teaching to all believers encouraging us seek, listen to, and obey our feelings and impressions because God speaks to us in this way. If this is how God commonly communicates to his people then surely there will be more than a few didactic verses on this important subject? After all there are dozens of texts on other important aspects of Christian living such as worship, prayer, obeying God, suffering, loving one another, etc, etc. So where are they?

There are none. Those who believe it use circular reasoning, for the most part. Many believe that God speaks to them, because. . . God speaks to them.

Notice how CASUAL it is:

Acts 9:10-16
And there was a certain disciple at Damascus, named Ananias;
and to him said the Lord in a vision, "Ananias".

And he said, "Behold, I am here, Lord."
And the Lord said unto him,
"Arise, and go into the street which is called Straight,

and enquire in the house of Judas for one called Saul, of Tarsus:
for, behold, he prayeth,
And hath seen in a vision a man named Ananias coming in,
and putting his hand on him,
that he might receive his sight."

I'm afraid I would disagree about this being casual. As I said in an earlier post, there is not one example of God speaking to anyone other than major figures and/or for major reasons. This is no exception.

Paul wrote 1/2 of the New Testament scriptures! This was a big deal in the history of redemption. This was not God "chewing the fat" with Ananias.

Look at the way people in this thread claim they have heard God speak, and compare it to this instance. There simply is no comparison.

1 peter 3 Wives, likewise, be submissive to your own husbands, that even if some do not obey the word, they, without a word, may be won by the conduct of their wives, 2 when they observe your chaste conduct accompanied by fear. 3 Do not let your adornment be merely outward—arranging the hair, wearing gold, or putting on fine apparel— 4 rather let it be the hidden person of the heart, with the incorruptible beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is very precious in the sight of God. 5 For in this manner, in former times, the holy women who trusted in God also adorned themselves, being submissive to their own husbands, 6 as Sarah obeyed Abraham, calling him lord, whose daughters you are if you do good and are not afraid with any terror.

Mathew 23:17 Fools and blind! For which is greater, the gold or the temple that sanctifies[d] the gold?

19 Fools and blind! For which is greater, the gift or the altar that sanctifies the gift?

25 “Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you cleanse the outside of the cup and dish, but inside they are full of extortion and self-indulgence.[f] 26 Blind Pharisee, first cleanse the inside of the cup and dish, that the outside of them may be clean also.

27 “Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you are like whitewashed tombs which indeed appear beautiful outwardly, but inside are full of dead men’s bones and all uncleanness. 28 Even so you also outwardly appear righteous to men, but inside you are full of hypocrisy and lawlessness.

37 “O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the one who kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to her! How often I wanted to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, but you were not willing! 38 See! Your house is left to you desolate; 39 for I say to you, you shall see Me no more till you say, ‘Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord!’ ”[g]

Revelation 18:2 And he cried mightily with a strong voice, saying, Babylon the great is fallen, is fallen, and is become the habitation of devils, and the hold of every foul spirit, and a cage of every unclean and hateful bird.

3 For all nations have drunk of the wine of the wrath of her fornication, and the kings of the earth have committed fornication with her, and the merchants of the earth are waxed rich through the abundance of her delicacies.

4 And I heard another voice from heaven, saying, Come out of her, my people, that ye be not partakers of her sins, and that ye receive not of her plagues.

5 For her sins have reached unto heaven, and God hath remembered her iniquities.

6 Reward her even as she rewarded you, and double unto her double according to her works: in the cup which she hath filled fill to her double.

7 How much she hath glorified herself, and lived deliciously, so much torment and sorrow give her: for she saith in her heart, I sit a queen, and am no widow, and shall see no sorrow.
