  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Does God audibly speak to you in prayer?

  • Yes. God talks to me all of the time.

  • No. God speaks to me through His Word.

  • God has spoken to me in an audible voice.

I get that, but HOW?
Does He send a prophet?
Does He speak to them individually?
Doe He speak to them in a dream or vision?

You are asking about precisely how the apostles received their prophecies. We are not told specifically. Nor is it particularly relevant to this debate.

Stating that, doesn't resolve the issue of positively identifying that a person is in fact communicating with God, to someone else.
You asked how to know which Shakespeare is which.

What more can i say about it? We 'know" His voice.

It's completely relevant to this discussion.
That's my point. We are not told specifically how He speaks.
So for you to suggest that you "know" it's this way or that way
would be to assume things.
i'm taking it at face value and you consider that silly,
yet that's all we have to go on, well, that and my own
experiences and other's.

Is his daughter there with him? Can you give us a first name,
state, country? Her first name? What type of illness is the
threat of him losing his life so soon...?
You son has already witnessed to get the family started being
saved and that is so good!
Stan
He is not alone but my son can't be there.
They said he will die of cancer within 24 hours.
I was not kept abreast of this, or did not realize
the gravity of it, and prayed "in passing" for the
man previously. (wish I had fasted for him :/)
Lesson learned there. But God
is certainly able to move mountains.
Chicago area.
I live in another state.
Thank you and God bless you.

I'm not assuming anything. I am going on what scripture says and using the rules of hermeneutics to interpret it. eg not interpreting the words literally when they are clearly metaphorical, looking at the context, etc.

I don't know, really. I've never had God speak to me audibly. At best, maybe with some incident which I may or may not have psychologically traced to God.

How God speaks-

Isaiah 30:20 And though the Lord gives you
The bread of adversity and the water of affliction,
Yet your teachers will not be moved into a corner anymore,
But your eyes shall see your teachers.

Psalm 119:24 Your testimonies also are my delight
And my counselors.

Mathew 7:24 “Therefore whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock: 25 and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it did not fall, for it was founded on the rock.

26 “But everyone who hears these sayings of Mine, and does not do them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand: 27 and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it fell. And great was its fall.”

28 And so it was, when Jesus had ended these sayings, that the people were astonished at His teaching, 29 for He taught them as one having authority, and not as the scribes.

John 14:15 “If you love Me, keep My commandments. 16 And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever— 17 the Spirit of truth,

3 Jesus answered and said to him, “If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our home with him. 24 He who does not love Me does not keep My words; and the word which you hear is not Mine but the Father’s who sent Me.

25 “These things I have spoken to you while being present with you. 26 But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you.

Proverbs 4New King James Version (NKJV)

Security in Wisdom
4 Hear, my children, the instruction of a father,
And give attention to know understanding;
2 For I give you good doctrine:
Do not forsake my law
.

18 But the path of the just is like the shining sun,[a]
That shines ever brighter unto the perfect day.
19 The way of the wicked is like darkness;
They do not know what makes them stumble.
20 My son, give attention to my words;
Incline your ear to my sayings.
21 Do not let them depart from your eyes;
Keep them in the midst of your heart;
22 For they are life to those who find them,
And health to all their flesh.
23 Keep your heart with all diligence,
For out of it spring the issues of life.
24 Put away from you a deceitful mouth,
And put perverse lips far from you.
25 Let your eyes look straight ahead,
And your eyelids look right before you.
26 Ponder the path of your feet,
And let all your ways be established.
27 Do not turn to the right or the left;
Remove your foot from evil.

Psalm 119:21 Your ears shall hear a word behind you, saying,
“This is the way, walk in it,”
Whenever you turn to the right hand
Or whenever you turn to the left.

Psalm 119:18 Open my eyes, that I may see
Wondrous things from Your law.

19 I am a stranger in the earth;
Do not hide Your commandments from me.

24 Your testimonies also are my delight
And my counselors.

36 Incline my heart to Your testimonies,
And not to covetousness.
37 Turn away my eyes from looking at worthless things,
And revive me in Your way.[a]

Actually, I thought what does it matter if I pick up the stuff off
of the table first. Yet, again came this strong voice as to No, don't
do that. The trimmer guy was not at my apartment yet, so I never
put that with the sudden warning that I was getting to move. It made a great testimony for Almighty God though as my stool could be seen right at the table just as I left it there. Glass all over everything. I was probably seated not even 2 foot in front of the door. It would have been so tragic! Many years ago, I thought
as to I'm so glad that holy angels can't die. My guardian angel would have been probably gone by now.
SO glad you listened.
My lawn guy threw some kind of ball at my front door once.
I had hated that it was a steel door without even a peephole.
Well there was a big dent in that door lol.
I can't remember what it was, seemed like a billards ball but
I know that wasnt it. So I can imagine what a mess you had!

Thanking God that you were not hurt. Can picture your dining room disaster, as about half of my apt was under the shattered glass mess, broken blinds pieces. The rock sailed across my living room and clear across the kitchen -breaking a picture frame. Other things were also damaged and broken because of that situation just adding to the mess.
My mess was nothing compared to that lawn mower incident you had.
But i sure was kicking myself.
Good thing though, I learned from that,
I respond much faster now , heh.
Flipped your vehicle, but you were or anyone else was not
injured? Wow! Praising God right now for this! I think your
guardian angel would have been dead or giving up on you, just
like might of wanted to.
Not only was no one injured at all, there "just happened" to be a
nurse behind me, she stopped and took me to her vehicle and
called for help :)
No harm no foul, .. at that time.
Good stories. I'm sure we both have many. :)
Thanks for sharing[/QUOTE]

I also think one must be single-minded in intent. One must fully intend in his heart of hearts to take whatever God may him as Agenda Item Number 1. I know that's extremely difficult for me, because I always have so many desires and intents of my own for every day. It's so hard to say, "My agenda is clear--all my time is Yours" and truly, truly mean it.

When that has occurred for me, it's like being a pole vaulter at the epitome of a vault, those fleeting moments when one is crossing the bar at a high one has never achieved before. Glorious and brief, then you're down again. Rare enough to be counted on a hand, even in my sixties.

No one has ever been able to 'make' God answer them with an audible voice. Not even Jesus Christ. He alone determines when He will do that. All you can do is submit your entire being to God each new day and go from there, trusting He will guide your steps, your mind, and your will to accomplish His--because He promised He would.

I understand the moments you spoke of. Extremely rare to the believer, when you know that you know you heard directly from God. I've heard that a handful of times in my life, too. Nothing compares to it. Just two weeks ago I was going through the bottom curve of a valley of the shadow of death, and cried out to God with every fiber in me to end... something... but just end this nightmare! I didn't understand why He was tormenting me "after all I had been through" <rolls eyes at myself>. I sat down and stared out the darkened window at nothing, sobbing my selfish little heart out. Suddenly... someone... began talking to me because I started nodding in somber agreement to whatever it was they were saying to me. I still don't know what was said, but I'm confident enough with how the Lord operates that I don't need to know. Someday I will. Ever since my heart and mind have experienced a renewed peace in this ongoing situation. I'm much calmer now, and no longer see this valley as "the Lord tormenting me". Good WILL come from it, to the glory of God. And that is all I really want after I thought it through.

God never says to us, wear red socks today, then eat Cheerios with skim milk, and go to work by these specific streets---and these are the reasons why I want you to. How good of Him to assume we are reasonably smart enough to dress ourselves, eat healthy, and get to work in a timely manner. He does, however, spiritually nudge us to go talk to someone about Jesus Christ, or, move us to choose something out of our ordinary day every once in a while which serves His purposes. I'm of the opinion that sometimes we don't even realize we chose to wear those red socks or take an alternate route to work simply because God wanted us to, for His purposes! When you submit your way to doing God's will instead of your own, He honors that commitment. We will see all that someday, and praise His wisdom for NOT revealing every detail to us!

No one has voted that God speaks to them in this manner, audibly.

I hope no one got the impression that I meant audibly when I've
shared accounts of hearing God.
I hear HIm in the Spirit.

Perhaps we must "anoint" our eyes to see.

Revelation 3:18...and anoint your eyes with eye salve, that you may see.

Proverbs 4:20 My son, give attention to my words;
Incline your ear to my sayings.
21 Do not let them depart from your eyes;
Keep them in the midst of your heart;

1 John 2:24 27 But the anointing which you have received from Him abides in you, and you do not need that anyone teach you; but as the same anointing teaches you concerning all things, and is true, and is not a lie, and just as it has taught you, you will abide in Him.

My answered prayer

John 14:25 “These things I have spoken to you while being present with you. 26 But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you. 27 Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.

29 “And now I have told you before it comes, that when it does come to pass, you may believe.

Yes. I'm sure we do. I thought this would be a thread to
post those type of stories under. How do we discuss
prayer being a two-way street if people don't post their
experiences here? I'm talking the kind of prayers that you
mentioned- ones where God moved mountains to bring them to
pass.

No, this thread is not about telling stories. This thread is about: The idea the God talks back to us when we pray has become so accepted that it's difficult to challenge, but is it true or a cliché?

You might want to begin another thread to tell stories.
