  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Does God audibly speak to you in prayer?

  • Yes. God talks to me all of the time.

  • No. God speaks to me through His Word.

  • God has spoken to me in an audible voice.

Satan almost ALWAYS quotes Scripture...

EVERY HERESY is based on Scripture...

EVERY rejection of heresy is based on Holy Tradition...

The Councils did not endlessly argue Scriptural exegesis...

They asked instead: "Is THIS the Faith of our Fathers?"

Arsenios

In the end, we will all be judged according to the Word (John 12:48), and if we were misled, we will know whether we followed Christ or the world.

It makes sense to all of those of us who hear His voice.
If you don't hear His voice,
I guess it would be difficult to understand the concept
maybe?

Pretty much...

Those who have not (heard the voice of God), when they see those who are delusional, then seek a rule to discern which is true and which is false, when Scripture pretty much tells us that spiritual matters are discerned spiritually... And that prophets are subject to the prophets in the good order of the Church (Paul's teaching)...

Hard to teach fish all that much about fire...

There is not one instance of God speaking directly to anyone other than a few specially-chosen people, and only for the purpose of conveying covenant. Big-picture things to a very select few people.

There is no other example, instruction or expectation given to the average believer to receive special revelation from God.

The burden of proof is on those who insist that God spoke to them to remind them to get butter at the grocery story, or that they would marry a specific person, or have a certain job.

"God told me" is a feeling, and people would best serve their fellow man by referring to it as such. Why can't we say: I feel that I should quit my job.

Actually, Paul wrote repeatedly of prophets in the Body of Christ - Do you need citations?

Prophetic Gifts come by Revelation from God, and are often verbal, but not all that audible...

The Holy Spirit reminding one to not forget the butter is, I agree, a stretch...

I mean, it is wrong...

By our deeds...
As Scripture records...

Well, I believe that God would even help someone to remember butter.
I have been known to be a bit absent minded, and I discuss this with the
Father every time I screw up, but seriously, He helps me with things
that most people would say "oh bull"..
Reminds me of the time about 20 years ago that I couldn't pay my light bill.
I had just started stretching my faith muscles, and a lady from the power company
came to turn off my lights :/
I small children and would not have the money until the next day so when she came
to my door i told her that i was broke and she said she would have to turn off the
power on the side of the house.
I said, okay and smiled nicely at her.
Then right to the kitchen table i sat praying by faith that Father would not allow my
power to die.
I remembered that He'd said that if we had faith, if we asked according to His will.
etc. so.. I thought i would ask Him to help me out.
As I prayed, the light above the table flickered, I kept praying, then it went dark. I
continued to stand in faith believing that He really cared and would hear my prayer.
It came back on, it went dark again, and eventually, it came back on.
The doorbell rang, the woman stood there with her tools in hand. she said, "i can't
get it to turn off, I will have to send someone tomorrow. I smiled and said, "I'm
not surprised". She asked if I had tampered with the electrical box. I said "no"
She said, "why did you say that then?" and I told her how I had been praying.
She left .. I paid my bill before they came back.!
That was about faith, not hearing God.
But the next part relates to your comment.
My close friend was dabbling in Christianity, but in the sects that are iffy.
I told her my awesome story! All about how Good God is, etc.
Her words to me. "Well you have cigarettes and coffee and God saved your
power? Hardly!"

Yeah, I did, years ago I smoked.
Yeah, I was a sinner, and dumb and much more.
But He heard my prayer.

Might be super important to someone that they
go home with butter. Might be the needed ingredient
for the cake they're baking for the neighbor who's
mom just died. who knows. But i won't discount the
idea that God could/or would remind someone to get
their butter, because He carries my butt. Not bragging.
I know it's not His ideal. He wants us to "Grow up" in Him.

Hello! This is my first forum post. I am a self-supported missionary in Taiwan and I have heard the voice of God several times, though only in my mind, never audibly.

Here are a couple of examples:
1. I'm a very casual person, but a preacher needs a suit (or a clerical collar) at my church, so I wear one to avoid offending the weaker brothers. One time, just before getting up to speak, I looked down at my clothes and thought, "Hey, I look goood!" Immediately God spoke to me and said, "Don't trust the suit". So I took off the coat and tie while I preached and explained the congregation my purpose for doing so. The sermon was fine without the suit.

2. Another time, I went out to a park to walk and pray. I was wishing that I had Sony Walkman so that I could have a better worship experience, when God spoke to me, "Don't let your faith depend on the music." After that, I accepted that worship and prayer don't have to be beautiful, emotional experiences to please God or edify myself. I also became more aware of using music in the church to simulate the work of the Holy Spirit.

Prophesies are words people speak about *God's Word* to *other* people.

I ask because most reports here do not hear God with their ears audibly, but do so in their minds, noetically...

Almost none are saying audibly, and the one I remember said it was not God...

You seem to be seizing on that... And it makes better press to be able to accuse others of "Hearing voices" with the vision of Son of Sam obeying audible voices telling him to kill people...

Perhaps I can help you here -

Audible: You hear a voice say your name, and turn around expecting to see the one who addressed you, and no one is there... There is no difference between this and someone being there...

Noetic: You keep "hearing" a musical phrase over and over in your "head" (mind) but it is not heard at all in your ears, but in your mind. Most here have had that happen...

Combined: In a noisy environment, you can hear music or words that are within the background noise that are not intended there. I remember driving tractor as a kid, and the sound of the tractor permitted me to make up music and hear it as I was driving...

Hearing 'out loud' voices without an external source is normally a sign of major issues in the psyche...

THAT is why I was asking you if you were "hiding behind" the 'audible' moniker for those who verbally, out loud or in silence, communicate with God...

So do you believe that the Kingdom of Heaven is within you?

Arsenios

Winter_Rose has said more than once that she hears God speak audibly, and another woman who has now deleted here posts did as well. I've not accused anyone of anything, have you? Son of Sam?! Killing people?! Who's going for sensationalism here???

To me, I can hear his voice. Sometimes it's audible like "Don't worry" and "I'm here my love." Sometimes it's like a thought, such as "I need to buy a card for so and so" or "I need to ring so and so." :)

Also, whether one claims that God speaks to them audibly or otherwise, is the question. My thoughts on the subject, based on scripture, are the the same regarding either.

Who speaks to you more than any other person? A look at Psalm 42:11 gives a hint of what I'm getting at:

"Why are you cast down, O my soul, and why are you in turmoil within me? Hope in God; for I shall again praise him, my salvation and my God."

Who is speaking to the writer? He is! This is self-talk. We all do it, and it's actually a very good practice, as in the instance above. You can encourage yourself with God's truth - with His promise.

Let's not credit ourselves for what God has spoken, and let us not credit God with what we have spoken.

TillCollapse commented as to how does one make a
postive ID on God -in various types of scenarios of
hearing Him. "interacting"

Watch for a voice of Authority and love.
It is overpowering!

Have we anywhere in God's Word been instructed to "Watch for a voice of authority and love as proof of God speaking directly to us? Do you have a chapter and verse for this?

I believe that scripture is given to us for guidance, to help us know true worship better. I also think in times like that, me must wait on God. That's what David teaches us, he says to wait on God until he strengthens us.

When something is added to the Bible,
it is never anything of value.

Am I understanding this aright?? :

ANYTHING written ABOUT the Bible is an ADDITION to the Bible...

Therefore...

Your comments will never have any value...

Including your comment above...

Did you really mean to say this??

I mean, IF you really mean what you say, you can ONLY speak Bible in order to say anything of value...

Seems oxymoronic, yes?

Arsenios
Arsenio's, when you say "Anything written about the bible is an addition to the bible."

Even when people like John MacArthur or RC Sproul write notes and add them to the pages of the scripture that is not an addition. We as evangelicals do not consider any comments on the bible as inerrantly/infallibly inspired, and thus it is not an addition to the bible.

In my previous post that you refer too I was referring to modern day oral revelation as the addition to the bible.

I really should explain, but I now have very little time and will probably not be on the boards as much. In fact I now have to go back to work.
