  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

If evolution is true, what would we look like if we hadn't have evolved?

IF this is true, then we have come a long way. As for the intermidiate forms from then until now? Your guess is as good as anyone else's.

Who is the "we" you are talking about?

Consider this: what would a human look like that had not been born, but been created?
(Ex-nihilo or whatever you´d like... I think that this creation-alternative has been in your mind when you made this thread, even if you didn´t mention an alternative to "had not evolved.)

Answer: it would look like a human, of course.

But why would it look that way? Because there is already a template "human" - which are born - to copy.

Such a template would not exist if you didn´t start with born - or evolved - humans. So basically the answer to your question would be: whatever our origin made "us" look like.

But in what way would that be "us"?

I would figure that we'd look no different, inasmuch that most other claims on the matter are religious and we look they way we do because we're "supposed" to - frailties, fragilities and flaws aside.

I'm not sure how you can answer such a nonsensical question. He basically asked "if we had evolved, how would we look if we hadn't evolved?".

His question is asked from the perspective of someone who doesn't believe in evolution.

"I don't believe evolution happens, but if it did happen, what would humans look like if it never happened to us?"

I don't know what that pic is that Son of the King posted, but that's probably close, if humans never evolved at any point in their lineage.

This makes no sense at all.

Maybe he means that if evolution is true for all non-human life, what would we look like if we had not evolved, but had been created. In other words, what affect would life evolving around us have upon our appearance?

An example would be the curse, assuming this suddenly permitted created organisms to evolve (except humans). We might then expect nasty things to happen like parasitism, virus-induced cancers and man-eating tigers. There's evidence for this in the Bible:-

Genesis 3:18 (KJV)
Thorns also and thistles shall it bring forth to thee; and thou shalt eat the herb of the field

I'd say we'd all look like God intended but appear very tired coping with horrible things like bees and wasps, mosquitoes, antibiotic resistant bugs, weeds in our gardens and devastating agricultural diseases. We'd have pock-marks, warts, bite marks, premature balding, white hair and rotting teeth.

And don't forget, evolution enables plants and microorganisms to produce mind-altering drugs which results in wars and terrorism, not to mention early death through smoking and drinking. Perhaps the Bible is right after all...

Reading comprehension fail?

No. The problem is that AV is not a good communicator.

The question is what would we look like if we hadn't evolved.

The question was "If evolution is true, what would we look like if we hadn't have evolved?". In other words "If A, what would we look like if not A?". The question contradicts its own premise, hence nonsensical.

Peter :)

Who's failing reading comprehension? Are you saying that Richard Dawkins (Homo ignoramous) is NOT the product of evolution?

Please explain why AV prefixed his question with "If evolution is true"? He obviously made a mistake.

The original question did not make sense, AoS
