  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Hi Ernie,

I thought you were gone?

No , read Post #31.

Sorry, Ernie , that won't fly easy either.

18"To the angel of the church in Thyatira write:

To THE angel write..........

24Now I say to the rest of you in Thyatira, to you who do not hold to her teaching

Jesus is not transferring a message to angels here He is addressing those at Thyatira.

I thought a partial preterist might drop by with a thought.

How about:
Ephesus means desirable.
Smyrna means myrrh.
Pergamos means marriage or fortified tower.
Thyatira means sacrifice of perfume or unending sacrifice.
Sardis means remains, remainder, or the resoration.
Philadelphia means brotherly love.
Laodicia means opinion, judgment of the people or of the laymen.

Hi RThibeault

That is definately what this is about.

Some people in Thyatira had fallen under the influence of Jezubel. Some had pleased Jesus in how they were as it says here.

Rev 2
24Now I say to the rest of you in Thyatira, to you who do not hold to her teaching and have not learned Satan's so-called deep secrets

Jesus wants those people to :

25Only hold on to what you have until I come.

The bottom line ...can this verse be fit into a futurist doctrine? If it can't futurism has a stumbling block. So far I haven't seen a good answer.
Can a partial preterist live with this verse as written? Maybe one of them will clear that up for us.

Justme

Yes, very much so. One only need look at what the teachings of Jezebel were or so implied in the verse. Such teachings were apparently satanic, and as such we need to be careful not to fall trap for such teachings. There is now a line of teaching which speaks of the spirit of Jezebel. This teaching, though interesting, can be taken to extremes and misrepresented to the point where great damage can be experienced in the church.

Conversational aside:
When a friend of my wife came over tho the house to show off her new baby I just about came unglued (inside) when the friend said that the little girl was named Jezebel!
I still can't get over this choice of a name!
No doubt the friend saw ithe shock in my eyes and she made some statement to the effect that Jezebel was just a very "misunderstood" woman.
