I only started this in the Single's Forum because like LifeInYou mentioned in a previous post, It's Gettin Dead in Herrrr. (that's my Nelly way of saying dead in here).

Anyways, the conversation started when I logged in and saw the number of users online was (gasp) 666.

Which reminded me of a radio show I was listening to about the great lengths people go to in avoiding that number. Things like, omitting an item from your groceries when the total comes up $6.66. Then there were others that took the stance that "Geeesh, it's just a number, the devil has no power over you from it, and you can't get to 7 without it."

***seconds pass...

Okay, Kelly just came over to my desk here at work and mentioned that it just seems to pop up very often. I was like "Maybe a bunch of other numbers come up just as often, but they don't stand out because they have no affiliation with Satan" i.e. it seems to pop up more than other numbers because you notice that number more.

SO, what y'all know about it.

Now, if some dude sporting a 2x4 with a nail through it was charging at me, and I hung around long enough to see that he had "666" tatooed on his forehead, I would take it as a warning.

So maybe it's a warning if it appears intentionally....

It's just a number. I used to be paranoid about that too, but I wisened up by asking myself, "What about the six hundred and sixty sixth time I blink every day, or the six hundred and sixty sixth step I take, six hundred and sixty sixth thought I think, word I speak, or note I hear in the day?" If seeing being involved with the number six hundred and sixty six in any way at all is thought as of some kind of satanic omen, then we'd be having some pretty paranoid people around here. :) Now if something like the above happens, then you've got some things to worry about!

The number 666 of course has to do with Revelation 13:18...it is the number of the beast and the number of a man...it is mysterious, yet we are invited by scripture to guess at it, as the verse tells us to "let him that hath understanding count the number.."

Many of the world's political figures have had names whose numerological equivalents come out to 666....from Nero to the Pope to Juan Carolos to Ronald Reagan to Bill Clinton to Prince Charles. My father who is a retired minister said that in one of his seminary classes the students came up with a numerology that showed the professor's name coming up to 666!

Numerology is very important in many secret societies...you probably know about all of the numerology coincidences that surround certain historic events, such as the 9/11 incident and the JFK assassination. I do tend to try to avoid the number if I can. I would rather have a grocery order that comes up to 7.77 than 6.66. But then again, 777 is just another number, which probably also has meaning in the occult world.

That's not a warning, that's a serious personality defect. You'd be right to run away!
