His record of abuse (four marriages that ended because of abuse) and drinking on the job is an issue that he admitted as well as the taser issue and other issues and admitted having those problems in the past.

Here are some of her positions..What I can't stand about her,except for her stance on abortions,and the Marriage Amendment,which she flip-flopped on the benefits bill for same-sex couples. She thinks Sports Complexes are more important than libraries, and bill oil is more important than the environment or even alternative sources of energy.

In October 1996, she asked the Wasilla police chief, librarian, public works director, and finance director to resign, and instituted a policy requiring department heads to get her approval before talking to reporters.[17] In January 1997, Palin notified the police chief, Irl Stambaugh, and the town librarian, Mary Ellen Emmons that they were being fired.[18] Palin said in a letter that she wanted a change because she believed the two did not fully support her administration. She rescinded the firing of the librarian, but not the police chief.[19] The chief filed a lawsuit; but a court dismissed it, finding that the mayor had the right to fire city employees for nearly any reason.[20] According to Ann Kilkenny, a Democrat who observed City Council, Palin also brought up the idea of banning some books at one meeting, but did not follow through with the idea.[16]

During her second term as mayor, Palin hired the Anchorage-based lobbying firm of Robertson, Monagle & Eastaugh to lobby for earmarks for Wasilla. The effort was led by Steven Silver, a former chief of staff for Senator Ted Stevens,[27] and it secured nearly $27 million in earmarked funds. The earmarks included $500,000 for a youth shelter, $1.9 million for a transportation hub, $900,000 for sewer repairs, and $15 million for a rail project linking Wasilla and the ski resort community of Girdwood.[28] Some of the earmarks were criticized by Senator McCain.[29]

On January 5, 2008, the New York Times published an op-ed by Palin, presenting her view that the polar bear should not be placed on the endangered species list.[63] In May 2008, Palin objected to the decision of Dirk Kempthorne, the Republican United States Secretary of the Interior, to list polar bears federally as an endangered species, saying this move was premature and was not the appropriate management tool for their welfare; the State of Alaska filed a lawsuit to stop the listing amid fears that it would hurt oil and gas development in the bears' habitat off Alaska's northern and northwestern coasts.[64]

Palin also disagrees with strengthening the protection status of the beluga whales in Cook Inlet, Alaska, whereoil and gas development has been proposed.[65]

"Bridge to Nowhere"

In an article titled, "Bridge leads McCain to running mate Palin", the Associated Press said canceling the "Bridge to Nowhere" was "the first identifiable link connecting Palin and McCain," soon followed by "whispers of Palin being an ideal GOP running mate".[30][31]

Newsweek describes Palin's relation to the bridge thus:

As Alaskan corruption scandals grew, and the Bridge to Nowhere became synonymous with out-of-control federal spending, Palin switched positions. In an astonishing pivot, she began using the rhetoric of the projects' opponents. Now she talks as if she always opposed the funding. She used one of her stock lines in her nomination acceptance speech: "I told the Congress, 'Thanks but no thanks' for that Bridge to Nowhere."[32]

As governor, Palin allowed Chevron to triple the amount of toxic oil and gas wastes it dumps into Cook Inlet waters, despite the fact that the Cook Inlet beluga whale (Delphinapterus leucas) (a genetically distinct beluga whale) in the area is on the verge of extinction.[39] Palin has additionally blocked attempts to place the Cook Inlet beluga whale on the endangered species list, which prompted a June 30, 2008, notice of a lawsuit by environmental groups.[40]

Palin is pro-life;[3] she is opposed to abortion in all cases (including rape and incest) except when necessary to save the life of the mother.[4][5][6] In 2006, while running for governor, Palin was asked what she would do if her own daughter were raped and became pregnant; she responded that she would "choose life"

Gay unions

Alaska was one of the first U.S. states to pass a constitutional ban on gay marriage, in 1998.[15] Whilst campaigning for election as Governor of Alaska in 2006, Palin declared that she supported the 1998 constitutional amendment, although she said she has good friends who are gay and does not wish to judge gay people.[9]

In December 2006, following long-running litigation and a 2005 ruling, the Supreme Court of Alaska ordered the state to begin paying health and retiree benefits to the same-sex partners of state employees. Declaring that there were "no more judicial options to pursue" to avoid paying the benefits, Palin agreed to comply with the ruling.[16] At the same time, in her first legislative act, Palin signed a bill ordering a non-binding referendum for a constitutional amendment to deny the benefits.[17]

Palin subsequently vetoed a bill that would have denied the benefits, declaring that "signing this bill would be in direct violation of my oath of office" due to the state Supreme Court ruling.[18] Although the referendum passed in April 2007 with 53% of voters supporting a constitutional amendment, a bill to place such an amendment on the ballot in November 2008 stalled in the state legislature.[19]
Lobbyists

Newsweek described Palin's relaions with lobbyists thus:

Plain has given jobs to friends and appointed lobbyists to oversee industries they used to represent.

Trish Rolfe of the Sierra Club's Alaska branch has stated that Palin's policies have been a disaster for Alaska's environment, saying "the idea that she stands up to the oil companies is a joke."[41]
Iraq

In an interview with Alaska Business Monthly "shortly after she took office" as governor,[53] Palin favored an "exit plan" for the war in Iraq:

Alaska Business Monthly: We've lost a lot of Alaska's military members to the war in Iraq. How do you feel about sending more troops into battle, as President Bush is suggesting?

Palin: I've been so focused on state government, I haven't really focused much on the war in Iraq. I heard on the news about the new deployments, and while I support our president, Condoleezza Rice and the administration, I want to know that we have an exit plan in place; I want assurances that we are doing all we can to keep our troops safe. Every life lost is such a tragedy. I am very, very proud of the troops we have in Alaska, those fighting overseas for our freedoms, and the families here who are making so many sacrifices.[54]

Palin has tied the war to the quest for new energy supplies, saying, "We are a nation at war and in many [ways] the reasons for war are fights over energy sources, which is nonsensical when you consider that domestically we have the supplies ready to go."[55] However, she also stipulated that a clear plan for Iraq should not include concerns with oil or energy dependence, saying, "I’m a mom, and my son is going to get deployed in September, and we better have a real clear plan for this war. And it better not have to do with oil and dependence on foreign energy."[56]

There's nothing illegal about it--that's business as usual in politics. But part of Palin's appeal is that she markets herself as a reformer who fights against cronyism, when in fact her record shows her to be, in many ways, a typical politician who rewards her friends and punishes her enemies.

I actually REALLY like the fact that she supports teaching both sides. The fact that Evolution is taught as absolute unquestionable fact without any possibility of alternative is religiously and logically offensive to me.

You don't get to teach wild theories and then look for the evidence later, that's just dumb.

Hmm evolutionists do just that and have many times - teaching as fact something that is debunked later and then they dont bother to retract it - the zygote issue is one of them - its still in some textbooks for crying out loud.

That is how science works. They don't retract, they through peer reviewed critcism just adopt the new theory kind of like from Galieo to Newtons theory of Gravity.

Text book publication or the purchase of the right books with new theories in not the fault of the discovery.

Um you missed the point - the other person claimed that teaching something as fact and then proving it later is dumb - i said evolutionists do it all the time and you just admitted too - they just move on from their earlier "dumb" move right?

Maybe you missed my point. I am not saying they teach it as fact and prove it later. What I am saying is scientific theories evolve all the time and seldom do they use the term fact as absolute fact. Which is why the theory of Gravity as factual as we understand it, remains a scientific theory.

A scientist can take a old theory thought to be passe given a new theory, and improve on that new theory to make it a newer theory.

That is why they don't just erase a old theory is if it never exist.

Theoretically, no. But go to a highschool or a public forum and suggest that there may be an alternative to evolution and see if you don't get laughed at because "Evolution is just as much of an established law as gravity."

... even though technically Einstein rejected newton's theory of gravity in favor of General Relativity.

When something is found to be incorrect within a theory of course scientists don't "change their mind". They simply change the goal-posts.

For years, it was a well-known fact that Pluto was a planet. Now it's not. How does that work again?

At any rate, it would be nice to have both taught in schools, at least high schools, so that students could use their own brains. Everyone's always telling me that in order for me to argue against evolution, I've gotta know what evolution is. I've got to learn about it. Same thing with creationism, but I also believe that the public schools would mess up creationism so badly that the kids wouldn't be getting the whole story. Yeah, I have that much confidence in the public school system.

I'm not sure which is scarier the thought of 'Melt-down McCain" with his anger management problem, in control over the nuke button,or 'Sarah Barracuda'!

I think she is very much feminine, while being somewhat tomboyish. That's pretty much me in a nutshell. I can clean up and look hot in a formal gown but I prefer my camo hunting gear or sweats.

A woman with tenacity is finally headed towards the white house and because it's not the dem's woman, they're going to use the same logic you just used above. She's a strong woman, independent and not afraid to ruffle feathers. Sounds like all the great qualities the dems were touting in Hillary. But I never once heard them express concern over her use of the "nuke button".

Hillary Is strong,yes,but I have never seen a vicious/malicious streak in her.

Seriously? Maybe it is just perception but she seems pretty viscious at times.

Palin's failings have nothing to do with her gender, but with her politics and ethics. She is an awful candidate and regardless of gender she doesn't belong in any political office, let alone the VP.

Really? That's interesting. It wasn't malicious of her and her husband to take that stuff from the white house before they left? That seemed awful vindictive to me...but I don't think that meant she would've abused the nuke button privilege.

Sarah Palin hasn't shown any vicious or malicious streak. She's shown strong decisions, decisions that may have caused controversy. Controversial decisions aren't necessarily wrong, either.
