Had our previous politicians acted instead of just mouthing we wouldn't have to deal with all the deportations of those who have flooded our borders illegally. Get real friend, our politicians have not done anything to help our country and guess who has been in control most of the time. It is time to see if it can now turn around. It will if we work together and quit trying to be everything to every other nation.

Even if we could have saved one that has been killed or maimed by illegals it would be worth spending the time and funds to keep that one person out of the country. Because making it "tall enough, thick enough and deep enough" would be more expensive than you'd be willing to pay.

So 17 billion dollars for a wall that won't actually practically achieve much seems like it could be better spent on, say, the programs that are already shown to be efficacious.

I asked for statistics citing the financial feasibility of the wall, since that was your argument...not the number of people deported or how many illegals are already here. Can discuss on topic at a time?

Good point if it were true that all illegals were here to find work. Unfortunately, many that come into our country are not here to find work. They are here to create havoc.

Two questions:

1: How many is "many"? Can we get a percentage? A ballpark figure?

2: What kind of havoc are they here to create?

Will taking away the food keep those people from wanting to come?

Probably not. Until you get an inkling of what some of them are running from, you'll never understand how futile your efforts are.

The wall on the south side of California is documented to having reduced the number of illegal immigrants by 95%..so yes, I think will stop those that currently just walk in.

Gotta find them first, chief.

Then you've got to detain them, try them, give them due process, and then move them... all at your expense, all while they contribute nothing.

The way I would go about that is do not tract them down; whether if they break ANY law even what for most would be traffic infraction they could get deported.

Sorry that you're emotional appeal isn't working. I'm not about to agree that we should waste money on the off chance that it could save a life. Statistically speaking, illegals don't seem to be committing any crimes against other people more than any other group. It just becomes emotional for people because...well, emotional arguments register more for some people than logical ones.

I want solutions to fix problems, not solutions to make people feel better. A wall isn't going to fix the problem when jobs are still available. People will find a way over, around, under, or whatever. It will happen. If the jobs aren't here, though, there's no reason for them to come to begin with.

We could take that money and form a partnership with the Mexican government to combat the drug cartels. That would have more of an effect of easing any criminal element coming into the US.

The same wall where the company that built it was fined $5 million for using illegal labor? That wall?

Mexican immigration to the US is at net neutral, so that problem is already solved, and Mexico spends a lot of resources keeping migrants from other countries from entering the United States. Increased cooperation between the US and Mexico is the way to solve any problems between the two nations.
Focusing on sealing the border, raising tariffs and deporting illegal immigrants will hurt the US economy, hurt domestic freedom, increase the power of the state and make the Trump administration a negative and tumultuous period in American history.
