I'm sorry I asked. I didn't want to hijack your thread it just sounds like you're not even supposed to worry about your health at all when fasting. Sorry.
I believe He called me to it. Isn't He a greater Physician than any earthly physician? I trusted I was hearing Him and so I trusted He knew best. And I was correct because He gave the ability to endure and, I was and continue to be great physically.
Sorry for not being clear in my last post.
I'm not saying this is His will for everybody. I'm sure He is going to ask things of you that He will never ask of me. We each have a different destiny in life and so that means we will each endure different things. He is a personal God and He deals with each one of us personally.

Good job. I am thinking about doing this. Any advice?

I think one thing to remember is it is an offering to God, so ask Him to help you but don't start condemning yourself if you eat a slice of bread, keep going. Someone brought me a pasta salad whiles I was on a forty day fast. I ate it and kept going. The strongholds still fell and the enemy was pushed back, I got what I was praying for.
Every one in the bible, except for Moses after he came down from the mountain - fasted by getting away from people and food. Being solitary is ideal for long fast but not mandatory. Be prepared for a bigger struggle if you can not go off by yourself. Jesus always went into the wilderness (desert) and He is Jesus.
My biggest fight is with boredom, days rolling along and you do 14 and say wow, then you think you have 26 more. So, I count down by weeks not days and read the bible over and over again between prayers. This is the purpose of fasting to spend extra time in prayer and the word but most importantly , listening - asking God to give you ears to hear.
I have watched Dolphins games during a fast, news and educational programs. As I said, it is your offering. You decide if it will be water only and absolutely no tv. I cut out everything else. Once again, God honored my fast and answered. I do wish I could get away right now on a boat out in the middle of the sea to fast for forty days. THAT was my best fast. I mean it was marvelous not to be sitting in four walls yet have no one bothering you. Praying and watching the fish swim by the boat. Awesome.
I prayed for rain so I did not have to get off the boat to get water and it rained and rained. One day the rain did not come, I was so thirsty and it did not come the next day. Then I realized the fast was over 2 days ago. I had like 10 24 ounce cups catching the water that ran off the boat when it rained and some gallon jugs with a funnel I used to fill them. Best water ever. Man, that was a fun fast. I prayed for God to put a stop to people throwing trash into the water by embarrassing them by putting it in the national news papers. About 2 days later it was pasted all over the front of all the papers. Like every little thing I prayed for after that fast, God did. I prayed and forgot I prayed about something until He answered. It was hilarious. That was the fast I ate the pasta salad on. I did not pray for that but I knew this lady was trying to get the police to pick me up because I was starving myself. So, I ate it. She said, "Leona, only Jesus could fast 40 days. You are not Jesus so stop!" I finished and did 2 extra.

Thank you for your insight jubilee. Very interesting story. I think the not eating part of the fast would be easy for me. I've gone long periods of time without food or companionship. Its just the clearing my mind, letting go and allowing God to lead me part that I feel will be difficult. I really hope I can do it.

Recovering Addicts know something that the church seems oblivious to. Jesus does in us what we can't do for ourselves. He trumps our flesh. And this is actually the centre of the gospel, yet, we never hear about it practically. I remember the first time I fasted. It was a 3 day fast and I thought there was no way I could go that long without food. I don't think we have the ability to fast, I really think Jesus gives us the power. Addicts take it One Day at A Time. Every morning they ask God to give them what they need to get through that day sober, and He does. We can approach fasting in the same way. Take it one day at a time. Rely on Him to provide for your physical needs. He will and you'll be amazed.

This post is for anyone who ever thinks "I don't have the will power to fast", (or basically do what the flesh doesn't want to do.)
