April 13, 1970 the Apollo 13 mission experiences a 'problem' that scraps their plans to land on the Moon, but fortunately they make it back in one piece five days later on April 17th. It's a really long article but an interesting read if you want to know EXACTLY what happened.

Apollo 13 is one of my top 5 favorite movies. I saw that in the theater years ago and it made me want to become an astronaut. I went so far as doing 2 years of aerospace engineering in college, but changed my mind and major because it was getting too difficult.

I always wanted to be an astronaut, but I ended up being too tall. (6'5") It is a great movie, though. (I just bought the anniversary edition DVD, and they included the IMAX cut...absolutely spectacular.)
