Prime Minister Justin Trudeau today announced a ban on some 1,500 makes and models of military-grade and "assault-style" weapons in Canada, effective immediately.

Starting today, licensed gun owners will no longer be allowed to sell, transport, import or use these sorts of weapons in this country.

"As of today, the market for assault weapons in Canada is closed," Public Safety Minister Bill Blair said. "Enough is enough. Banning these firearms will save Canadian lives."

The ban will be enacted through regulations approved by an order-in-council from cabinet — not through legislation.

The government official said that, at the end of the two-year amnesty, gun owners must dispose of the firearm or they may be able apply for the firearm to be "grandfathered." Details on the grandfather process would be released at a later date, the official said.

You can ban all the weapons in the world, people are still going to kill people if they want to, and there's nothing you can do about it.
They just have to work a lot harder at it. And most criminals are lazy.

Then what’s the argument for any laws at all? Regulation has never been about a complete sterilization of the world.

The cumulative effects of mass killings on our society will only breed more of the same. Especially when a nation does absolutely nothing to address the gun violence issue. Hopelessness sets in and humans aren't designed to withstand this high level of anxiety for sustained periods of time. It is certainly leading more people to be unstable and struggle with mental health. At least Canada is willing to do something to protect the innocents in their society. Americans actually perpetuate the vicious cycle of violence in the fraudulent guise of "inalienable rights" rather than sacrifice convenience in order to reduce unnecessary gun deaths. American society is like a snake eating itself because it cannot regulate it's own temperature. We insist on doing counterproductive things that exacerbate our problems. Specifically on the gun violence issue that is plaguing America. If one is unwilling to sacrifice their convenience of easily purchase weapons of mass killings or unwilling to even try different strategies to reduce unnecessary gun violence then one is essentially endorsing the sacrifice of innocent neighbors.

Why make the the tools to do it easily available?
I hate to say it, but there are plenty of things that are easily available that could be fatal. Some things in general and some things for certain people.

Why then do you need guns if other thing are just as effective?
just as effective? The point is yes those guns can kill many people at one time, BUT violence will happen because it is not the tool it is the person. A gun is a tool it dose zero o its own.

So? Why make it easy?
