  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I don't think you're crazy at all! C: I think it's great that you're pursuing two degree's: I know I am as well! I believe that Condoleeza Rice got two degrees; one in Russian Literature and... I can't remember what the other was in. It will more than likely take more than four years, especially for honours, but you can do it!

If I may ask: What two degree's are your pursuing?

Good luck!

Doing more than one major is not unheard of, but it will take more work. Religious scholar Gary Habermas for example did three majors and three minors during his undergrad!
B.R.E., (1972), William Tyndale College
* Majors: Christian Education, Bible, Social Sciences
* Minors: Philosophy, Greek, English and Speech
http://www.garyhabermas.com

You'll want to check with your school to see if you can use the same course as credit for both majors ... ex, if you need psyc*1000 for degree A and degree B, does doing the class count for both or not? I know that I was considering doing a certain minor when I did my BA but essentially was told that there was too much overlap between the minor and my major (since my major was interdisciplinary) so they said I couldn't do it.

I'm just about to graduate with two majors (English and Sociology) and a minor (Polisci), and I'm in my school's honors college. It didn't take me much extra time, and I finished up with a 3.9. Go for it! Best wishes!

Edit: 3.9 in the American system. Just letting you know so you realize there's no problem getting the same grades you'd get with only one degree. :)

Do you know anyone who has done this ? I am thinking of doing it but not sure.. :D Some of you might think i am slightly crazy for wanting to do so. heh

I am getting a honors in Computer Science and Psychology while getting a minor is mathematics. The big question is how much of a social life do you want, and if you can afford the extra time.

As to the first question, you can still have a social life, but you cannot go out and party every night. And when crunch weeks hit, it will be like a kick in the balls (the fact you are female is irrelevant to that comment:p). Also, it depends upon if you like what you do. If you like what you study and enjoy doing your projects, it will become part of your social life to do such things.

As to the time, if you can spend an extra year, there is no problem. If you can't, then you have to see if you can squeeze it in. And even if you can squeeze it in, are you willing to give up the off the wall random class that you will want to take from time to time? If my school offered a forging class, I would want to take it, but chances are, I would not have been able to fit it into my schedule.

Finally, it may depend upon how your school handles honors. How much extra is involved? If there is a great deal extra, just getting honors in one field may be the more reasonable choice.

And finally (and I mean it this time), don't pay attention to those who will tell you you are wasting your time doing all that stuff. They are just jealous:D.

Not crazy at all. :p

I'm taking a major in Nursing, a minor in Psychology, and doing my pre-Meds for medical school after finishing nursing. While pre-med isn't officially declared, per my counsellors recommendation, I still count it. All of this will start next semester. None of those are honors though, so I cant help with the expected work load there. :swoon:

G-d bless,
sc

It's ambitious, but consider this: if you finish early and respectably with one degree, you can spend the next year in graduate school. More expensive, but better pay at the end. See if there are any 4+1 agreements with grad schools. That will satisfy your desire to be a step ahead, and actually get you a step ahead.

If you split your BS degree, it can look either versatile or scattered to an employer, and that will depend on the interviewer. Make sure you are picking two that will lead to something concrete. Once you graduate, people aren't as impressed with grades and the number of credits you took on. Employers want to know if you can fill their current needs.

But that's great! More power to you.
