2 Great Lights

Hey folks,

I'm a bit confused on the part where the Bible says God made 2 great lights in Genesis 1:16. It says the "greater light" will rule the day (Sun), and the "lesser light" to rule the night (moon). I believe many years ago, I read from a book that the moon gets its light from the Sun which is why you can see it at night.

Of course, I know the Bible is right, but when you look at all those moon landings, the moon doesn't seem to be glowing. Can the light on the moon only be seen on earth or was the moon landing hoaxed?

Or do you have another interpretation on this?

I am sure the person who wrote Genesis thought the moon produces its own light. The moon is simply a reflector of light

Since the text does not say that, why do you believe it?

And thats why I am saying it is a poor design. An almighty God can do better than that.

You are assuming that God intended that the moon appear only at night. That is false.

If you support this type of design then your thinking level is the same as that of someone living in 3000 BC.

That is an ad hominem (mistake in reasoning). It proves nothing.

Read the whole verse to understand the word rule in context.

The word rule means exactly what I said it means. I happen to have read it in context, while you have added meanings to it. Further, you have not offered sound reasons for me to change my mind.

You dont have to use commands because the government has a system in which the second in command would be left in the country to take care of the situation.

Exactly. That is why God created the stars.

Your analogy of comparing an intelligent system with an unintelligent system is baseless.

Since the word "rule" is figurative of the moon's function, one is really comparing an intelligent system with an personified unintelligent system.

The kind of unscientific language used simply shows the writer was not familiar with the details of the solar system.
I would have used the same kind of reasoning if I was living during his time.

Who said that I said God intended the moon to appear only at night. Next time read what I am writing clearly before you write gibberish. If you think the writer of Genesis was God, know that others are not in the same boat as you.

I cant teach you how to read English sentences can I? Go back to school.

I will give you two weeks to think about it clearly. You can then come back for a discussion. Right now your mind is not ready to receive new ideas.
