• CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

15 ways to Refute Materialistic Bigotry:

http://www.answersingenesis.org/news/scientific_american.asp

is an answer to the article, '15 Answers to Creationist Nonsense’ :

http://www.sciam.com/article.cfm?articleID=000D4FEC-7D5B-1D07-8E49809EC588EEDF&pageNumber=1&catID=2

Excerpt:

"What follows is a point-by-point response to Rennie’s ‘arguments’. We are posting this on the Web site, since we know it would be a waste of time trying to submit a letter to the editor. Not only has Scientific American shown that it is willing to practise religious discrimination in its hiring policies with Forrest Mims, but they also refused to allow Phillip Johnson to defend himself against a vindictive and petty review by the late atheistic Marxist, Stephen Jay Gould in the July 1992 issue. I read through that article a week ago, and I have to say, my favorite quote is:

Perhaps the USA is ‘the most scientifically advanced nation the world has ever known’ precisely because it has been the most Bible-based society the world has ever known!

Is this supposed to be a cue for the laugh track or something? :D

Since this is supposed to be a discussion on evolution, I'll just leave it to a former President of ours to decide:

"Article 11. As the government of the United States of America is not in any sense founded on the Christian Religion..." --Treaty of Tripoli, signed by President John Adams in 1797

Another good one:

These computer programs [forming sequence TOBEORNOTTOBE, etc] have been widely popularized by the atheist Richard Dawkins, but are a lot of bluff. Such simulations as Dawkins, and now Rennie, propose as ‘simulations’ of evolution work towards a known goal, so are far from a parallel to real evolution, which has no foresight, hence a ‘Blind Watchmaker’.

That's why it's called an analogy. A-nah-low-geeeee. If there were certain traits which made survival easier, and a T for the first letter was one of these traits, then TXXXXXXXXXX would survive while XXXXXXXXXXX would not, and you'd move along the line until you had the whole phrase, TOBEORNOTTOBE.

I respectfully submit that the most scientifically advanced nation has become so not because of American Creationionists, but American scientists. And if not for Creationists, would be even further advanced. We're the laughing stock of the European community because they think everyone here is still a Creationist. It's a sad fact.

America may have the most sophisticated and largest scientific community in the world (many of the scientists have come from other countries BTW), but by in large the American public is one of the most scientifically illiterate in the industrialized world.
Nevertheless, can you give specific examples of how and why you seem to think the USA is "the most bible-based country in the world". What about the Vatican?

Economically speaking, we are the most powerful nation in the world, mostly due to the abundance of natural resources we possess across our land. With money, technological development is easy to come by.

Statistically speaking, we are among the most scientifically illiterate of developed (and even some developing) countries, which is why we are the laughing stock of Europe. After seeing how much paranoia, hosility and distrust for science and scientists is present on boards such as these, I think I know why.
