A very common tendency I have encountered is to deprive the Bible of the usage of poetic language, metaphors, similes, hyperbole and to claim that it uses all terms literally. All other literature is, of course, granted that right.
Problem being, they have to change sections of the bible to make the "God used evolution to create mankind" belief work.
