Yes and I am sure you know that the protestants were the first ones in 1400 years to actually win the war. Or at least fight it to a stand still. There were dozens of reformations throughout those centuries. Same miracles, revivals, same doctrines but all were overcome militarily in the end. Conquered and wiped out. Not just by the the Holy Roman empire and the Papacy but in every nation or area Christians existed. The only difference was that printed materials went from the tens of thousands a year of hand or wood plate printed books and pamphlets to the tens of millions a year and the authorities could not stop the Bible from getting into the hands of the general public. Northern Europeans were the first people in the history of mankind to be armed with something no one else ever had like they did. Bibles. That is why they overcame. God knew this thousands of years in advance and told us when the saints would begin to overcome. when the fourth of those four empires ended.

He just didn't tell us how and many a believer thought is was going to be by God riding into town on a white horse and wiping out the wicked. Nope. Turns out it was through the influnce of the Word of God transforming nations and those nations with Gods' help winning their freedoms and therefore the promises.

The Reformers identified their struggle as being overwhelmingly with the antichrist of the apostate papacy. What other adversaries of similar magnitude did they identify?

That is because the reformers were in northern Europe and within the realm of the Holy Roman Empire and the kings that aligned themselves with it. North Africa, the Middle East, Asia Minor were all Christian too you know until Islam came along and murdered a few hundred million Christians. The eastern Roman Emperors were constantly persecuting Christians. Acted exactly like the Holy Roman Empire. Who knows what befell Christians in the far east. The northern Europeans got something these other area's of the world that were large majority Christian did not have. Bibles, and they got them , if your looking at this from the vantage point of millennia right when the fourth empire fell.

Bible possessing Bible reading peoples have been and will continue to be the victors in this contest of dominion. Your reading the victors history. Your not very aware of 1400 years of Christian reformers who were the losers in history because they didn't get the chance to write it. They were destroyed.

All empires and kingdoms pretty much treated Christians exactly like the Holy Roman Empire and the popes did. But here is a clue to help you out. The Bible isn't prophesying about the Roman Empire because it is the main culprit in the persecution and wars against the saints. Because it is not the greatest culprit. It is one of many and that is what is troubling you. You are looking at the persecutions and wars against the saints by the Holy Roman Empire and the popes and believing as a specific entity they are the fulfillment of prophecy. Non of that is it. Its not the entity, its the timeline. Its naming the Roman Empire proper because that is the timeline that at its end starts the beginning of the age of promise.

I'm believing what the Reformers believed, and it is that they were accurate in their prophetic recognitions and diagnoses. The success, by God's grace and mercy, of the Reformation, is compelling evidence of that accuracy. We today are its spiritual beneficiaries.
