Chester offers a contrasting stay with Liverpool (recently named as European Capital of Culture for 2008) just 30 minutes away by train. This is the home of the Beatles, two Cathedrals, two Premier League football clubs, the Tate Gallery and a host of magnificent art galleries and museums.
Chester lies in the heart of Cheshire with its cornucopia of timeless towns and delightful villages stretching from the hilly Peak District to the borders of North Wales.

It's another country with its own flag, language, customs and government. The City has been the gateway to North Wales since the Romans landed in Britain 2000 years ago and established a frontier fortress here.

In North Wales, you can discover castles that have stood for 1000 years, set amid stunning mountain scenery with valleys carved by the Ice Age.

I'll have to get my maps out about the borders of Wales, from England and Scotland....

I love your pictures, Cygnus!

I wish there were more pictures of Chester----some of the cliffs and castles look so timeless and picturesque......!!!

when my parents divorced (I was 5 years old), I was moved to live in Chester , an ancient Roman town , one of the few with a city wall still intact!
and years later , after being somewhat of an enigma , I noticed an accent on the radio , and it was a guy who was raised in Chester , he sounded like myself and my brother ........ it was the first time I could put a place on my speech , it is an accent with few rises in the voice but as sharp and direct and straight to the point as I ever have heared ........

I visited Chester on several occasions , and it is certainly a place that draws people , in the words of the Beatles , "there are places I remember .........

Hi JS , I would say it is the Constellation of Cygnus ......... ^_^

In the constellation of Cygnus
There lurks a mysterious, invisible force
The Black Hole
Of Cygnus X-1

Six Stars of the Northern Cross
In mourning for their sister's loss
In a final flash of glory
Nevermore to grace the night...

From the pictures it also appears to be quite a "haunted town".......... ( restless spirits..famous spirits...restless gifted spirits......soooooo cool..........! That is wonderful about the Lord's messages about meeting another person, from the area you came from...in a coincidence like that......The Lord does work in mysterious ways especially with we recognize coincidence.....I LOVE this about the LANDSCAPES and ancient ARCHITECTURES you show us here......!!!!

(and if I could ever dream of traveling!!!LOLXOXLOL!!!_)

hi freespirit  , yes you sum up the city of Chester quite well , and I was drawn back there on several occasions that left there scars , I visited a Christian brother for councilling once (generally I have no time for councillers except the Holy Spirit) and he was such a spirit filled Christian , his address was .....Lord Street!

But I do remember a time (when I was 5/6) when I was raised for a short time by a woman who wasn't my Mother , and years later I visited her and was really freaked to find much of what I suspected were dreams were real , part of my childhood , and still I know I have a Half sister and half Brother in Chester , but that is far too much for me to handle .......... all I can say is people make their choices and have to live with them ... I have seen life from many different views , and I am not bitter , how can one be bitter that circumstances have lead us to Jesus the Christ ..... a brief look at ones background opens up the probability of similar events and suffering in others , so I am much the better for being able to see anothers views , many times we are searching for something , when all the time Our Lord is saying
"I am ............Here" .......
such a realisation makes it seem all worthwhile , and I can only hope to be available to others .

May the Lord Himself Bless those who are feeling dispossed and alone , may He reach those who look and say , "Why me!!!"

And to realise God is in all circumstances , that is just wonderful to me , nothing is pointless or wasted , we are the richer for anothers sacrifice.

Aren't childhood memories really something, Cygnus?
We went through such crosswinds of hardships with the grownups around us as young uns.....aahaahahah....Platinum hardships.....Steel grey iron-clad iron-rock hardships........You do get me onto my "soulspeak" dear brother........and the magic play where I was left to play alone in large boxes for hours on end....And here we are...

But the area we grew up in....how beautiful and mystifying it remains in our minds eyes, through the eyes of faith....

I love the ocean I was born by......and the huricane winds I came in on....it is writ for us....

about being reborn into the Spirit.....

about being reborn into the Spirit.....

She was the rose of Sharon from paradise lost
From the city of seven hills near the place of the cross.
I was playing a show in Miami in the theater of divine comedy.
Told about Jesus, told about the rain,
She told me about the jungle where her brothers were slain
By the man who invented iron and disappeared so mysteriously.

Was she a child or an angel? Did we go too far?
Did we snap at the bait, did we follow a star
Through the hole in the wall to where the long arm of the law cannot reach?
Could I been used and played as a pawn?
It certainly was possible as the gay night wore on
When men bathed in perfume and practiced the hoax of free speech.

And them Caribbean winds still blow from Nassau to Mexico
Fanning the flames in the furnace of desire
And them distant ships of liberty on them iron waves so bold and free,
Bringing everything that's near to me nearer to the fire.

Sea breeze blowin', there's a hellhound loose,
Arabian men who have escaped from the noose,
Preaching faith and salvation, waiting for the night to arise.
He was well connected but her heart was a snare
And she had left him to die in there,
He was goin' down slow, just barely staying alive.

The cry of the peacock, flies buzz my head,
Ceiling fan broken, there's a heat in my bed,
Street band playing "Nearer My God to Thee."
We met at the steeple where the mission bells ring,
She said, "I know what you're thinking, but there ain't a thing
You can do about it, so let us just agree to agree."

And them Caribbean winds still blow from Nassau to Mexico
Fanning the flames in the furnace of desire
And them distant ships of liberty on them iron waves so bold and free,
Bringing everything that's near to me nearer to the fire.

Atlantic City by the cold grey sea
I hear a voice crying "Daddy," I always think it's for me,
But it's only the silence in the buttermilk hills that call.
Every new messenger brings evil report
'Bout armies on the march and time that is short
And famines and earthquakes and train wrecks and the tearin' down of the walls.

Did you ever have a dream that you couldn't explain?
Did you ever meet your accusers face to face in the rain?
She had lone brown eyes that I won't forget as long as she's gone.
I see the screws breaking loose, see the devil pounding on tin,
I see a house in the country being torn from within.
I can hear my ancestors calling from the land far beyond.

And them Caribbean winds still blow from Nassau to Mexico
Fanning the flames in the furnace of desire
And them distant ships of liberty on them iron waves so bold and free,
Bringing everything that's near to me nearer to the fire.

"That is not dead
Which can eternal lie
Yet with strange aeons
Even death may die."

H.P. Lovecraft

"God of life, there are days when the burdens we carry chafe our shoulders and weigh us down; when the road seems dreary and endless, the skies grey and threatening;
when our lives have no music in them; our hearts are lonely,
and our souls have lost their courage.
Flood the path with light, run our eyes to where the skies are full of promise;
tune our hearts to brave music;
give us the sense of comradeship with heroes and saints of every age;
and so quicken our spirits that we may be able to encourage the souls of all who journey with us on the road of life,
To Your Honor and Glory."

In Jesus' Precious Holy Name,

Amen
