  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

To a new Christian I would say

1 step at a time.

STEP 1

Stop doing anything in your life that is not pleasing to God.

Start doing everything in your life that pleases God.

STEP 2

Stop doing anything in your life that is not pleasing to God.

Start doing everything in your life that pleases God.

STEP 3

Stop doing anything in your life that is not pleasing to God.

Start doing everything in your life that pleases God.

THESE 3 STEPS WILL COVER IT ALL.

You missed out - and when you in human frailty slip up you can still turn to Christ and ask for his help to sort out the mess. Christ will then help you back on your feet and start all over again.

I want to miss out.

on all the sin I can.

Nice idea but 1 John that great epistle on the love of God warns just how hard that is for humans to do.

If humans truly could do all that was pleasing to God then Christ [Emmanuel] would not have needed to come.

or

He came to show us humans that we can do all that is pleasing to the Lord.

To the new Christians:

Whenever you lose faith or are consumed by doubt, let Satan continue to question you, and only then will your faith in and love for God be reinforced and heightened. Don't resist your initial insecurities in Him, for God wishes that His love in you can be the strongest and surest as possible--the only way this is possible is for you to accept His plans for you and your heart. Do what you feel is right--even if it may seem out of tune with your newfound faith in Christ and the Lord. You'll soon see that God's love for you is eternal, no matter what you do. God bless!

We are saved by faith, through the grace of God. I once thought it impossible to "ask a mountain to move." So I concluded I would ask nothing, instead assume God would give me what I deserved. Of course being a sinner I deserved punishment. Ironically this also demonstrated how powerful faith really is.

I think that life is about finally overcoming and becoming the children that God wanted us to be. We are the prodigal son types, whereas Samuel here was probably the son that mostly lived rightly. Well a step above that, if he won't complain to God about who was saved.

"I will have mercy upon whom I have mercy."

See the law condemns, for our nature is sinful. He would have all come to disobedience so that he could show us mercy. As a child I thought I was special and righteous on my own. I accepted Jesus as part of the Bible of course for what he was, but in my heart I wasn't looking at myself as a sinner or looking for a savior at all.

It is our faith that saves us, and yet many Christians get obsessed about the law. To be a christian is to recognize one is owned by Jesus Christ and become his faithful servant, like a sheap, or a dumb animal that needs to be trained. He is patient and longsuffering to us, and will go to great extremes to forge the character of Christ within us.

We are free from sin. It's like someone came along and pulled you out of a pit to save your life. Would you then hurt the person you owe your life to? Even though he is a better man who would not fight back if you hurt him. After a few punches you realize it has accomplished nothing, and that you owe him that much more.
