It seems that Russia has started a war with Georgia today, 080808.
Yet the American Main Stream Media seems to be ignoring it in favor of the Olympics.
I don't know about you, but I think this is much bigger news then the Olympics are being this could be the start of the next world war.

It is entirely likely the date was deliberately chosen to minimize international media coverage.

Probably governments saw this coming, but they don't want to be forced by popular demand to take action against Russia. By the time the Olympics are over it is all a fait accompli and there is nothing to get in a huff about.

Russia did them all a nice favor.

It's been on Fox News most of the morning. Georgia did not attack Russia. From what I can tell they are fighting to keep a part of their nation from breaking away.

Bush has stated supported for Georgia.

The United States is calling for an immediate cease fire between Georgia and Russia, administration officials said Friday, adding that the U.S. supports Georgia’s territorial rights in the flashpoint conflict over the breakaway region of South Ossetia.

It is not looking good.
I wonder if there are United States troops moving there now since the line in the sand has "publicly" been drawn.

The US doesn't have the troops to spare.

Seriously, if people were debating the ability of the US to take on Iran, then there is no way the US can take on Russia without pulling everything out of Iraq.

Although I suppose the US could dispatch some planes since it has total air superiority in Iraq.

Or by starting a draft.

It takes months to train drafted soldiers. And, moreover, given the equipment problems that have appeared in Iraq (like being unable to fully equip the Army and National Guard units simultaneously) there likely isn't enough stuff lying around for drafted soldiers to use.

Besides, the only way to get a draft would be to elect Obama president.

He's the only person who could convince the people that would be up in arms about a draft that it is in the nation's best interest.

So no draft until the end of January at the soonest.

I don't know. Bush is unpredictable and congress doesn't have much say anymore, as if they would protest anyway.

And I believe Obama to be just another puppet of military industrial complex. So this "change" he preaches to his followers, I believe is nothing more then then lip service.

The point is that the people that support Obama are the ones likely to get all up in arms about a draft.

Now if Obama used his rhetorical talent to explain to all his supporters why a draft was a good idea...well...

You might well get a draft with minimal social upheaval.

One of Bush's biggest problems has been his utter inability at public speaking. He has no ability to persuade people to this or that.

All of the effort they have put into militarizing the police lately, I think they have prepared for "social upheaval".

It is always better to try and not use your militarized police unnecessarily.

And I hardly see the elite as really needing to spend all this money on Georgia.

I would think that "social upheaval" would be reason to use the police in attempts to maintain control.

And when have they cared about spending money? And why would they when they create it out of thin air?

Everyone knows money is finite, and there are bigger and better fish to fry than Georgia.

If you can avoid social upheaval and the requisite use of police you do so.

The police are there when the action is unavoidable and the upheaval is inevitable.
