  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Yes, it seems to me that we as we get older will need to remember these fading temporary mortal bodies that gradually fall apart (or even if one doesn't until near the end, same difference) are not really who we are, but we are our soul instead. When these mortal bodies die, we are not dying.

no, we would not say that. our mortal bodies are our bodies and us, just not their fallenness.

1.) is it the complete trust, in humility, to God’s Providential Care that goes beyond words and desire?

2.) Thanks, that makes sense.

1. more that the Divine is beyond words and desire, since the Divine is uncreated and our words and desires are created.

2. no problem.

interesting different wordings and ways of talking about it. So, what is happening when the body slowly ages and loses abilities, as you would describe that?

So, this communion with God in this state of contemplation is beyond (below, one may even say) our desires and thoughts although that’s as far as our language goes to describe our experience? So the goal is to trust God in that humble state to not let our thoughts and desires get in the way of that contemplation that doesn’t have thoughts and desires? Maybe I’m just trying to know this state intellectually and it’s vain to do so.

when you are in that state, you are beyond anything created. so you are beyond thoughts and desires, even though you still have them.
