  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

"Miraculous Medal" card found -- what's the best thing to do now?

Hi OBOB! Yesterday I was going through the last few duffle bags of things that used to belong to my father, who passed away about four years ago now. As I believe I've posted before (but long ago), my father was raised Catholic in the pre-VII church, but as he used to say, it "never took". So...

    Who is Mary?

Being born an Anglican with a more Protestant than Catholic outlook and brought up with a high veneration of scripture I have always been intensely sceptical of Catholic and Orthodoc views of Mary and generally dismissed them as Marianity and a distraction from true religion. But recently I have...

Fairuz sings Coptic Kiahk praise song "Ya M-R-Y-M" (O M-A-R-Y) at Deir El Natour, Enfeh Lebanon

Never thought I'd see Fairuz singing a Coptic Orthodox song...though I know she's done Syriac hymns in the past (Shubho L'Haw Qolo; she also did it in Arabic as Subhan El Kalimat), some people say that's because her father was Syriac originally from Mardin (Syriac region in Turkey). As far as I...

    Why are we Mary"s servants?

I usually see that on prayers so I'm curious about the meaning of that.

Why don't you use the term Theotokos when talking about Mary?

I mean, she is the Mother of God since she gave birth to Jesus who is both God and man.

Why Protestants should call Mary, the Mother of God.

Disclaimer: I am not a Theologian, and do not speak for the Catholic Church. I am merely a layman, here to evangelize, and and to state the obvious, the Our Lady bore God the Son in her womb and gave birth to Him, who is God. Our Lady truly is the Mother of God, and to deny that inevitably leads...

    Thank You!

Though I am not yet catechumen (hopefully by the end of this week praise God), your words and responses to other peoples questions have helped me in this year long struggle...

Why Settle in the Expression theotokos?

I want to know why the word is used so much to refer to what most other denominations would call the Virgin Mary. Theokos, yes, I understand all of the theology. But that's not what I want to know. It's more of a linguistic or language question. I want to know how that word became so popular it...

    [moved] Trinity described

In principle God created His Wisdom. To His Wisdom He gave a Face: the Theotokos In the Face and Body of the Theotokos He became Son. With this simple description one can understand how the Theotokos (Virgin Mary) is present inside the hypostatic Trinity. The liaison among all is due by the...

On Confusion of the term; Affirming "Mother of God" in reference to the Blessed Virgin

So I've noticed a fairly common trend over the years. Almost inevitably when the issue of Mary as the Theotokos or mother of God is raised someone will protest by arguing that Mary can't be the mother of God because Mary didn't give birth to God the Father or the Holy Spirit, or that Mary didn't...
