Icons made with pencils or felt pens

Thank you. That was my same reasoning, I was told of icons being printed and shown to be miracle working so icons which are drawn with pencils or pens, or woven or carved into wood should all follow the same time. My priest blessed recently wood icons made by a friend at my parish so that's...

Icons made with pencils or felt pens

Hello all, Before posting this, I searched extensively online both on other sites and this forum I also asked to orthodox acquaintances and a parishioner, to no avail. Is it possible to draw an icon with colored pencils or felt pens, or watercolors, provided a "canonical" stile is met and all...

What is the Church's position on Creation/Evolution

Have you ever met Orthodox literalists? Legitimately asking. Personally I haven't talked to that many Orthodox people, but my priest was very clear on the subject and I suppose all the folk at my parish were instructed the same way, if this is confirmed by the Church and the Fathers then there's...

What is the Church's position on Creation/Evolution

What others said, confirmed to me by my priest on an occasion. There's no official teaching. Evolution could be real but it would still be a work of God, and the consensus is that Genesis is at times and places (intentionally) poetic, not literal.

Genesis 34: Simeon and Levi massacre inhabitants in Shechem

I was confused by God's apparent indifference too, but you can find his judgement very well defined by the end of Genesis. It should be the 49th or 50th chapter, because as Jacob departs he comments for each of his children, and his judgement (God's) on Simeon and Levi is harsh...

Genesis 34: Simeon and Levi massacre inhabitants in Shechem

Thank you for your insight. I have in the meanwhile also studied part of the story of Joseph, until Jacob dies, and have seen already how righteous he is, and humble and loving too. I will keep everyone's assessments in mind as I discuss this chapter in the future.

Genesis 34: Simeon and Levi massacre inhabitants in Shechem

I'm not sure. They did ask that they become part of their people, that they join their culture and submit to their law and thus join their Covenant with God or am I wrong in this? The circumcision through which they were to be enjoined with Israel sounds to me much like us Gentiles being...

Genesis 34: Simeon and Levi massacre inhabitants in Shechem

That is definitely interesting and coming from a respected father. However I somehow prefer more obvious and literal interpretations as we've seen before. Being, a story of sin against sin and of lawlessness on both parts, and the righteous chastising from Jacob.

What games should be allowed for adults?

there's no way this can be wrong. Just be careful to play soberly and with proper company. If the company is sinful then it's better to play on a console at home.

Genesis 34: Simeon and Levi massacre inhabitants in Shechem

I think the Nohanic law already prohibited murder, so I made a mistake. God was obviously against what Jacob's sons did, when in Genesis 9 he said what murder would cost to the offender.

What games should be allowed for adults?

If I can suggest something limit your playing time to a minimum and find some other constructive hobby that isn't known to cause addiction Board games and card games are preferable exactly because they help socializing and can hardly become an obsession. The exception are some complex board...

What games should be allowed for adults?

I think it all boils down to you and how gaming makes you feel. I've had a very long experience with large amount of videogames within a few genres, mainly rpgs and mmorpgs as well as strategic games of all subtypes. The problem with videogames is they distance me from God in a way or another...

Genesis 34: Simeon and Levi massacre inhabitants in Shechem

thank you for this. Although isn't it just conjecture? Where do we see Jacob's sons punished or chastised for doing what they did? Or whatever else shows God was actually very displeased with the massacre.

Genesis 34: Simeon and Levi massacre inhabitants in Shechem

To sum it up, it seems the main morale is that in that context almost no divinely received Law existed, and the few already recognised were violated here on both sides. However, God seems to allow sinners to be taught a lesson via the sin of the vengeful offended party. As when Esau disregarded...

Genesis 34: Simeon and Levi massacre inhabitants in Shechem

I just read this chapter and did a brief search online. I'm trying to understand whether there is any currently valid morale in this story, or if I should just dismiss it as a tale within Genesis that bears no value today. Of course I'm not reflecting on whether we can avenge the rape of a...

    Russia and Ukraine - why?

I see. Well I wasn't glad with the ROCs response and the results we see now are pretty bad. Mount Athos is just one of such outcomes.

    Russia and Ukraine - why?

I'm just trying to be your opponent in order to fully understand your argument. Since the canon says one should discuss a supposedly mis-anathematized person with the other Bishops at a "synod", could anyone claim that Bartholomew legitimately did just that? I'm just guessing maybe that could...

    Russia and Ukraine - why?

I think this should cut any debate for good. But where can I read more on this? I need proof that the Patriarch of Costantinople doesn't have such a right, and if so in what context can this Anathema be removed legitimately. Thank you

    Confronting parents and relatives

Maybe it was just the experience of my very first religious debate, and at other times I'll feel bad about it just like with the political discussions I had in the past with parents and acquaintances alike. I hope however to always feel such peace. I know that it wasn't an entirely mystical one...
