For Us All (especially for me)--Debating in OBOB

Some things from 2 Timothy--which kicked my butt this morning- Remind them of this, and warn them before God that they are to avoid wrangling over words which does no good, but only ruins those who are listening. Avoid profane chatter, for it will lead people into more and more impiety...

Times like this I just LOVE being Catholic

My oldest son asked, "Mom, why if we are the children of God do we say 'I believe in Jesus Christ, His only Son' in the Creed?" And I replied that other translations translate it as "only-begotten Son...and that we are the adopted children of God.....but let's see what the Catechism has to...

    A Praise Report

So several weeks ago we switched parishes (to what might actually be supposed to be our parish geographically--they don't really do things like that here, so I don't know). Anyway- a few weeks ago, after Mass a woman that I had spoken to at one of my daughter's gymnastic classes came up to say...

    A gripe

I hate it when people who are NOT Catholic tell you that what you believe isn't Catholic. I especially hate it when people who tell you that they were raised Catholic, or were Catholic for 20+ years that you are mistaken about what the Church teaches---since apparently their catechesis was so...

The prayer at the mingling of water and wine--What does it mean to you?

"By the mystery of this water and wine may we come to share in the divinity of Christ, who humbled himself to share in our humanity." I was interested in reading everyone's reflections about what that means to them, or what they feel it means to all believers.

    A question about Lenten sacrifices

I was curious as to the Orthodox view of this: Is it okay to share the level of your Lenten fasting (whatever it is you've been directed to do by your spiritual Father) or Lenten sacrifices with others? Why or why not? An example of what I mean by sharing..."How are you fasting this year?"...

Pro-life statement , from my email

Dear Friends and Intercessors:(from John Otto) > This afternoon I was praying about a number of things, and my mind began to wander. I was deeply distressed at the symbolic actions that President Obama took as he began his presidency. Namely, that he signed executive orders releasing...

Is it sinful to turn your heat way up?

What say you? Is it sinful to have your heat up enough in the winter to not need a sweater or light jacket inside? Is it sinful to have a veritable greenhouse? Or is it just bad personal economics to crank up the heat?

Why do people care so much about what happens to their remains after they die?

I dunno, maybe I am too young to understand this--or too isolated from an impending sense of death. But the thread on cremation made me just kind of go  Why do people care so much what happens to their remains? My mom once had a big crying meltdown about not wanting to be buried...
